Hayes 9s? Too new for me...Loved my Hayes Mags. I let one of my bikes go for 6+ years without a rebleed with those brakes. I let a couple others also go for 5+ years. Go figure - when a local shop went out of business, I bought all their Hayes service parts, and never used them (except for pads). Those damned brakes turned out to be nearly bullet-proof.

I guess George is back. He deleted my original post that has nothing to do with the OP's post. I guess I didn't follow protocol and apologize for the hijack...mi culpa.
    Welcome Back George...missed ya! :)

Nope, wasn't me. I usually PM those who post I delete and explain why. It's not required for us to do so, but I've always felt it was best and fair to but still get grief from some STR members regardless.

All I know is I gave out over 25,000 thanks and earned close to 26,000

Hey guys. This is killing me. I hate that you guys are in this situation...
I have some questions for anyone willing to answer, that actually has answers:

    1. I take it George is the original STR webmaster. Has he communicated with ANYONE about his position on the status of the site?
    2. Did STR experience a virus, or did the maintenance get so far behind that an update of something killed the rest of the site due to incompatibility?
    3. Was STR's data backed up prior to the fall?

Putting "Thanks" back on STR should not be "too" difficult of a thing provided that all the .php is intact in VBulletin to be able to support the MOD/Hack.

    4. Does anyone have full access to the Administrative Control Panel? How about FTP access to the Site?

With what little advertising that is on STR, I think it's safe to say that it is a liability, and not an asset, to the owner(s). I know that imtbtrails only cost's me money and I have already spent a couple hundred hours to build it. Maintaining a Forum is not too consuming, as long as you have Moderators (which STR has/had great ones). I guess my point is, is that there is not much motivating George to keep STR maintained if he is no longer an active mtb'er, or making any money (at least to break even) off the site.

Most likely, it was a cool thing years ago, grew like crazy, took on a life of it's own, and now no one is around to maintain it. I guess what I don't understand is if there is no interest, and there is no money, than why not pass on the baton? The only real frustration I have is that there is a huge amount of awesome folks (you guys), who are left hanging after years and years of establishing the relationships you have. I know, because I have that with many members of STR and I have only been here a couple of years.

George. If your the guy; then if anything, you need to follow up to at least let them know your going fix this, or your going to sell/give it to someone who will. It's just not right to leave these guys hanging like this. You do have an obligation speaking as one forum owner to another.

I will offer to help in anyway that I can... Mikie

    Mikie - good luck.

Yes, George was the originator and is the (absentee) owner of STR. The site has been hit with viruses a few times over the years, and every time the functionality of the site has declined. This last one just built on the existing loss of functionality. No idea about the backing up of information.

No idea what the issue is with George, but for some reason he refuses to engage with this site anymore. It's frustrating and weird, and has at least partly contributed to the most recent decline. I really can't imagine why an advertiser would continue to throw money at an unmaintained website, but what do I know?

Just noticed that the upcoming events no longer update on the front page when people sign up for rides.

Don't really expect it to get fixed, but just one more sign of the crumbling/unmaintained infrastructure. Because hey, who wants to see if people sign up for rides anyway? Might actually foster some more community around here.

I find it very bizarre the guy goes completely dark on the site.. I know we're beating a very dead horse here but just can't imagine why you don't offer it up to the community which is trying to keep it alive.. there are some very cool people I've met through this site and it's sad to see it continue this way..
