Chino is my go to place for quick rides after work. Rode there last Friday and saw what looked like a temporary closure at the bottom of northridge. Yesterday the closure was much more permanent. Sorry I didn't stop for a pic, but it is now fenced off and posted in typical California state park fashion.

On another note, Friday they rounded up the feral cows and had about a half a dozen hog tied on telegraph. Sketchy riding next to a freaked out beast. Also, some one has been busy on boviniAn delight. Thanks to whomever spend a day out there grooming the trail.

Rode CHSP this morning and North Ridge is truly closed [IMG]
I went up Sycamore to see how far down I could get before trail was closed.

It turns out that only a quarter mile of trail is closed.
That means you can bomb down north ridge and not worry too much about who is around the next corner.
That also means that you "get to" climb all the way back to the top when you are done.

Down and up I only saw one other person.

Is this park open? I see a lot of threads about North ridge is closed? No idea never been but looking to explore a bit tomorrow here since I have the day off and on my drive by today the park looked very green. Can someone suggest a good route I have all day to spend here 10am-sunset

ok I see a good route that Gene posted a while back. Since North ridge is closed at Gilman and I see it's hiking only trail there is no way to connect back to Telegraph I will just start at Telegraph instead.
Telegraph, 4C, Raptor, Fautline, Aliso, Sidewinder, Bane, back to Telegraph

Just a warning about Sidewinder/Bane Ridge....both of these trails were very overgrown with Russian Thistle(tumbleweeds)....some as tall as 5'. I have been avoiding those trails because of it.

When end you get back to 4 Corners, climb up Bovinian Delight and turn right onto Southridge, and follow this to Ditmer, down Ditmer, back to Telegraph....Southridge is more up and down, but kore fun than going down Telegraph.

Rode SR to Bovian, Raptor, Upper Aliso, Sidewinder, Bane and back up SR this past saturday. Gorgeously green and NO thistle/tumbleweed or brush...just short green grass.

Good to know.....perhaps CalFire finally got out there and started clearing the tumbleweeds out. In November, Bane was hardly passable.

Anybody been up Scully Ridge in the last 2 weeks or so? Wondering ifbitbhad been cleared as well.

I rode the East side of Chino yesterday. All of the trails are in good shape however the main trail, from Green River has two closure due to thistle... but there are "ride arounds" for both closures, other than that, thistle not a problem. (although forget Fenceline - its a mess).

I rode the Sidewinder singletrack... I literally missed the crew out cleaning the trail. I could see them on the climb up to Bane Ridge. Sidewinder has been repaired and is in good shape. I would be interested in what shape Skully is in but Raptor/Faultline is in good shape. The climb from the bottom of Faultine is now a singletrack which is kindof cool... Also did Rolling M singletrack and there is a crashed out tree just before the climb out. Otherwise the trails is good. The Bane singletrack is also perfect right now...

My route - in from Green River, Aliso/Bane/SouthRidge to 4 Corners/Raptor/Faultine/Sidewinder/Rolling M/Bane Singletrack and back out... I start from Brush Canyon - 18 miles

I rode the East side last weekend. Bane ridge is glorious right now. No fire crews doing the cleaning - I think it's probably just the wind. I would guess that Skully is pretty clear for the same reason.
I worked on one of the Lower Aliso tumbleweed blockades for a while, but only made a dent.
The two month window for Chino singletrack is now.

Fantastic reports. I ended up taking Telegraph, 4C, Raptor, Aliso Canyon, took a wrong turn and ended up back to Camp and to Telegraph and 4C and back down Telegraph. Almost ate it on the bridge coming out of Aliso, 1 side had a lip and I was expecting a lip on the other side as well but nope had too much speed had to huck it to not endo and flying OTB. It was a good 2 ft drop wow caught me off guard. I wanted to ride SR but my legs were turning jello and it was starting to get hot so I took the easier and flowier route back to the car. It's amazing how tight the SS is on Raptor, wished there were more trails like these around here! I need to go back again to explore more.

Definiately the bridge at the bottom of Sidewinder...not certain when they repaired the one side... was riding with a friend, I saw her ride up onto the bridge and then just ride off and over the other side... she had too much speed and it was too late to bail when she realized the drop had not been repaired. It's a good 3 foot drop... thankfully she and the bike were OK and we had a good laugh.

Don't believe you can start from the Chino side legally....(caveat - I am guessing that is where Elinvar is since I don't know the name)

Legal entrances are on the Yorba Linda side... OK to recommend a route from there? I usually tell people to start from Carbon Canyon Regional Park or the Discovery Center/State Park located off Lambert Rd. in Brea. If on the weekend, cost to park in either park is the same so try the STate park and go into the Discovery Center and get a map. Note, the center opens at 8am.

Take Telegraph Canyon Trail to 4 Corners. From there several choices. I recommend Raptor to Faultline (both long descending singletracks) and then take that to the ranger station and climb back up South Ridge to Telegraph. At 4 Corners, if you still have lots of energy take Bovian to South Ridge to Deimer down back to Telegraph and out the park. Option once you reach 4 Corners from South Ridge, just roll down Telegraph. Many other options to explore such as Sidewinder, Skully Ridge etc. Print off a map from the State Map website and all of this will make sense.

not sure if the stop sign on north ridge/gilman's peak from Carbon Canyon state park area is still there but the closed portion is very short, 1/4 mile. Not sure if you can legally ride the closed portion so don't but the trail is definitely walkable. ..

Northridge is closed from Telegragh to Gillman to everyone. However Gillman is hiking only....no bikes allowed. You can however climb Sycamore and come down Northrodge to 4 Corners.

The trail from North Ridge to 4 Corners is called McDermott - either the singletrack or the fire road.

I spoke with a ranger re NorthRidge... the intent was to close it off up to Gilman, which makes no sense as most of the trail is in good shape. I have been riding up Sycamore and then taking North Ridge to McDermott, however, it might be fun to try going down North Ridge (after riding up Sycamore) to the blockade and then riding back up to Gilman and out by Sycamore. Wouldn't be a bad workout. It much better to warm up taking Telegraph to Sycamore than just starting up North Ridge anyway. Might try that this weekend.

To add: I usually hate the first 1/2 - 3/4 mile of climbing North Ridge anyway so if I stopped at the first gate (from the bottom) and turn around, the ride will be easy peasy... sortof...

The Elinvar entrance is the same as the Bane Canyon Entrance is it is (still) closed. They say it is scheduled to open “April 2015” (we will see).I’ve not taken it myself but several hikers have told me that you can legally get into the park from High View Street . I was told that “Beginning has a steep short start but easy afterward.” https://www.google.com/maps/place/3...9815,448m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0x0 If you do go in that way be very careful crossing Bane. There can be heavy equipment on the road and they will not expect you to be there. If you ride/hike ON Bane you will be ticketed, but they seem to be OK with just crossing. While North ridge is definitely closed, it is not actually closed at Gilman. You can ride about a mile and three quarters down it to a gate that is closed. And then you have to ride back up, but hey if you want an extra three and a half miles of riding up and down …
