    Chino Hills State Park

Does anyone know if Chino Hills State park open for riding or are they closed after the rain? I am in from out of town and I like riding there. Last year I drove over there the that trails were closed but I think the it rained a lot harder that time. Thanks for the help!

I normally avoid Chino after rain, but based on Dennis' report, I rode the East side today.
Primo conditions! - plants are low and just greening, trails have had little cow/horse traffic.
Hero dirt. I rode lower Aliso & rolling ridge singletracks , sidewinder and bane ridge. Met some newer riders and told them about STR. I explored water canyon a bit, then finished with alluvial.
Super clear out - the views were spectacular. Best time of the year for Chino!

Right on, Scheck. I was out there Sunday. Despite seeing a few tracks, we saw NO other riders east of Four Corners. It's unfortunate that so few venture away from the fire roads to enjoy the nicer trails, but I really do enjoy the solitude.

Anyone know why they're closing Northridge? Yesterday going down toward Brea right at the bottom before that old washout are a bunch of trail closed signs and a metal wire fence. The bitch is there's no sign anywhere before you get to the bottom and I bet most people are not going to turn around and climb back out

Today rangers were building a permanent looking fence right at the Brea entrance?? Was in a hurry and didn't have time to talk.

The washout area wasn't damaged by the last rains and there are no hazards anywhere on the trail??

Partial Trail Closure - North Ridge Trail

The North Ridge Trail is closed between the trailhead (located near the Discovery Center) and the Gilman Trail. This portion of the trail is closed indefinitely due to damage caused by the recent storm.

The trail, near the trailhead, is continuing to erode and has undermined temporary repairs. This portion is steep and unsafe for all use. Due to the geology of this area and the type of soil present passage is not safe as the soil continues to slide.

To reach Gilman Peak all users will need to access the North Ridge Trail from either the Gilman Trail, Sycamore Trail, or McDermont Trail which are accessible from the Telegraph Canyon Trail. Bicycles are not permitted on the Gilman Peak Trail. Park maps and brochures are located at the Discovery Center, Rolling M Ranch, and Four Corners. Park maps are also available here -

We appreciate your cooperation in adhering to trail and park closures. This closure is for the public's safety.

Kristy Tayles Foster . That is such a beautiful trail and such a great workout. It's sure had it's issues in the rain, over the last few years. Such a shame

I should have checked the site too. I rode up to Northridge about a half hour ago and saw the closure. Didn't know the extent of it, so I turned around and went home.

I was going to ride up North Ridge from the discovery center side and it was blocked off. Also spoke with the park maintenance not good news he states the trail needs to be surveyed by engineers and could take a few years. I think north ridge is gone for good sorry for the bad news. I liked the workout it provided so close to home.

I rode Chino yesterday and spoke with the maintenance worker up at 4 Corners as well as the rangers down at the start of North Ridge. What I found interesting is that NR has been officially closed since the first wash out which was years ago. I knew it was closed for a period of time but someone did repairs and I have been riding NR regularly for at least the last 4 years. I am alittle disappointed it's now closed as its my favorite trail in the Park. I ended up doing Telegraph, then Raptor/Faultine and back up SR instead and I have been exploring the east side of the park much more. Thankfully there is still alot of Park to explore. I know getting the State to set aside money to make the appropriate repairs will take time but I am going to explore what other resources (such as volunteers) are needed to get repairs made. I know some serious equipment and items like boulders will be needed to shore up the wash-out but if bodies are needed just to help out... I want to see if that can be done. Also if I can raise money to make repairs, would that work? Unfortunately means more traffic on Telegraph which is already busy enough. I assume Sycamore is still open if people want to ride out to and come down McDermott singletrack...

other than NR being closed, all the other trails are in excellent shape.

I rode Chino Saturday with the goal of getting as much Singletrack as possible...the route was not bad. Parked near Prado Dam: Lower Aliso single track up Southridge to Bovine, Raptor, up Sidewinder, Scully Ridge back out Lower Aliso to the Prado Dam. 21miles 3000k climb and felt like a lot of singletrack considering it was Chino Hills.

Seems like they are spending much money on the closed Bane Canyon Road. Because Bane Canyon is closed the Eastside Trails are not their normal winter post holed mess from horse traffic.

Hey Dean where abouts did you park near Prado Dam? Did you park off the 71 on the west side of the 71? I may try the ride you mentioned sounds good thank you

I rode the East side on Saturday for the first time ever. Family and I "camped" at Canyon RV. Rode SART to Green River Golf course (lots of parking on road before entering golf course) and then into CHSP. Lower Aliso made a left onto Skully, went up from there and back down to Lower Aliso on Brush canyon, I think. Beautiful day and trails were perfect.

Later that afternoon I was exploring the Yorba Linda part of SART, over Gypsum Bridge along La Palma and ran into this sizzle worm. When he/she was stretched out it was every bit of 5 feet long.
