I wouldn't cut it at all. I'm not certain of it, but my memory tells me there's maybe 10mm of space between the bottom of the post and the bottom of the internals. I have an XS Giant Trance X0 frame and short legs, and I can still get it low enough to fit me just right.

I have a Gravity Dropper. They have multiple lengths of seatposts. You could just get the right size and not think about cutting it.

you will stop dropping your post once your confidence on the downhill increases. I have not dropped a seat in a very long time. Never on this bike and its 5 years old, not on the old FS as well. Stay on top, slip off the back when it gets really steep. The dudes I know that drop their posts ride downhill very slooooowwww.

i think you're right. i'm still building my confidence on downhills right now and tend to use the brakes more than i should. i go downhill very cautiously

I ride with a Gravity Dropper and a KS - at first the KS was nice...infinite adjustment. But there is something nice and easy about the GD - it's either up or down and the click confirms it. I don't really care - just need it down or up, and the lack of an exposed seal is nice and not having to worry dirt, grime and seals...

Yeah...I'll give the GD that. Less maintenance for sure.

I think if I buy another seatpost it will be a 5" gd turbo. New models are 30.9 and I like the fact that you don't have to worry about the cable tracking and getting caught up or rubbing against your frame. It might not be the prettiest post, but I like the simple design.

Someone has post the measurement of the post for the 5'' dropper on the ks i900, the i950 is identical beside the saddle holder is none setback.
You can not cut down the post either.

i would recommend you try the following.
    1. insert the seat post and measure how much length the post can go in.
    2. measure your proper seat height( from the seat collar to the metal saddle rail holder).
then you add both 1 and 2 together and you can tell how much length you need for a 5'' dropper or 3'' dropper.

Are you saying you're considering getting one without a remote?

I would definitely recommend a remote with these products. The gravity dropper cable, once routed, doesn't move up and down like others. So you don't have to worry about the cable tracking against the frame or getting caught up.

You don't have the infinite positions with a GD, but really all I care about is having the seatpost up or down. If I need another setting I'd just drill another hole in the post.
