It is funny, but I got the same feeling when I went into The Path. I felt like a total rookie, probably because I didn't know the way the shop worked. Do I really enter through the back? Should I be walking through the repair shop to get to the merchandise? Where do I pay?

The 2nd time in the shop was better. I was looking for a sram gold powerlink and one of the guys stopped & took the time to pull a used chain out and show me how to insert the powerlink.

The prices at The Path were on-par with other bike shops, which tend to be a bit more expensive than large stores.

My personal favorite place is Performance in the Tustin Marketplace. They have always greeted me when I walked in the door. They have awesome prices as long as you buy the parts when they are on sale, which is always. They have a great no-hassle return policy. I once ripped the sidewall of a brand new tire on my first ride and they exchanged it. The staff even recommends alternative parts from other stores if they feel they don't have what you are looking for. I.E. they told me to buy simple green from Costco instead of the regular degreaser. I have had no experience with their maintenance department.

I only go here if a specific product I want is in stock or is on sale. Customer service is great. Someone is always greeting you or at the very least apologizing  because they are working with another customer. There is always some type of sale going on and the majority of the employees there will cut you a better discount.

I never had my bike serviced there other than my rear wheel which suffered a handful of beat up spokes. The cost of repair was just $15 that included the new spokes as well. A bargain if you ask me.

The only small issue I have is they tend not to carry popular items of smaller LBS. IE: I was looking for a set of elbow/knee protection and they had a really weak variety of them.

I have heard a number of horror stories with Performance but I haven't had a single bad experience yet. If something I need is in stock and more than likely on sale I will buy it there. If my bike needs serious work, I'd rather take it to a smaller store with more experience.

    They....

rarely stock anything I use except for energy drinks / food. This shop is on my way home from work.

Things I went in their to get and didn't have or know they don't carry :

    • Rock-n-Roll gold chain lube
    • Tubes for 29" wheels
    • King Headset
    • Tires for 29" wheels
    • Wide 31.8 Carbon Bars
    • SS cogs
    • SS freewheels
    • Stan's sealer
    • Brake Pads
    • SS Chain
    • Other
I just go right past them and drive the 15 miles or so to The Path;):bang:

I shop there alot. A couple of months ago I went in looking for a Kore seat. They didn't have the one I was looking for so I was going to have them special order it for me. The manager called their Corp office to see about it and after doing a quick search, the guy at Corp told the manager to tell me that pricepoint had the seat I wanted on sale. Kind of above and beyond service.

I also like the 10% credit and the sales are pretty good.

I think any of the "corporate" bike shops are going to be a reflection of the management. The LH store seems to have a good team.

I also spread my money around at the Path (tires) and R&R Mission Viejo.

    Just gotta be picky

They beat other stores on some inventory and some sales.

This week they had a 20% off coupon. So thought about a TriNewt, found it was already discounted $20 so applying the additional 20% made the sale. :) Places like Speedgoat don't even have it in stock.

I stopped by after work on 10/31 to pick up a Camelbak bite valve, a cleaning kit, and head sweat bands. They did not have any free ride shoes in stock. John is a great employee, offers discounts even on sale items, and just loves to talk about bikes. Always a consistent positive experience when I go there. :)

I attempted to price match an '07 Iron Horse MKIII Competition bike. The sales associate was great help explaining all the components, types of riding styles, etc. However, the manager denied the price match and sent me packing. Looks like I will be taking my money elsewhere.

EDIT: I also mentioned to the employee and the manager that I have dropped a decent amount of cash on other items for my older Giant bike and various items like Camel Baks.

What was the reason given for denying the price match?

I really didn't want to drop my cash here due to a previous price matching problem for a bike ](*,) but deperation beckons when other local LBSs in the area didn't carry Chamois Butt'r. Picked up a tube or Butt'r and a spare tire tube in case I get stuck out in boon-ville. A few of the employees asked why I haven't been around in awhile and told them why. Hopefully my comments will make another customers experience a positive one.

Went there during lunch today. Bought a few tubes, SS kit, and Oury grips for cheap. No issues.

Did anyone even know this shop existed? It must be new because I saw it for the first time last weekend and had to stop by. I love the performance membership thing. YOu get 10% back on your purchases the next day. It is going to be my one stop shop for all my clothing needs. Didn't really see the best bikes in there and the bikes the mechanic was working on were not bikes you would see out on the trails. The people in the shop were very helpful and didn't hesitate to give me ideas on how to spend my money.

All-in-all I will go back to buy riding clothes and other miscellaneous items. Oh yeah and the webpage has the outlet shop where you can get stuff for extra cheap and still use your membership online. I have already gotten enough back to make up the cost of my membership on my first visit!
