So we are finally done moving into the New Laguna Nagiel store. Here is the store front if you have not seen it. We are open for business!

We are excited! Come in and say hi! If you are in the neighborhood.

Let me start with this: I've purchased two bikes from Jax, and was pretty durned happy with the experience. Got a decent price, they have me no guff about the 100 mile checkup, etc. And then...
June 29, I notice I have a bent spoke on my road bike. Must have hit something - amazed it was only one spoke. So June 30 I dismount the wheel, remove the tire, and take it to Jax. "Hi. I need a spoke and wheel true." They tell me $25 for the truing, and $5 for the spoke. It will be ready Thursday, July 4. I can see they're busy, seems purty danged reasonable to me...looking forward to riding the long weekend.

July 3, I get a phone call. The spoke for that wheel is proprietary. 5-6 business days unti they get it. This is not an uncommon wheel; it came stock on many road bikes. They couldn't tell me this on Sunday June 30?

July 13: I get another phone call...the spoke is there, the wheel is true, but the spoke they ordered ends up being silver, while the rest of the spokes are black. They say they'll order a black one and replace it when it comes in. Now, I'm not a freak abou this, I'll ride it anyway. But when I mention I don't mind, they jump at the opportunity to get me to say okay, they don't have to fix the error. No, guys, order the right spoke and replace it. I'll pay you for the spoke. I'm not unreasonable.

Today is July 23. I'm still waiting for the call that they've got the right spoke.

I really, really wanted to be able to say that it was a great experience. But I can't.

Not sure which Jax you were dealing with but if you contact Matt at Jax in Long Beach I am sure he will help you out. He has bailed me out numerous times with bikes I have purchased there and even ones I have not. I realize that no matter which location or what employee you spoke with the problem should have been taken care of ASAP.

I am sorry for the inconvenience on this. Do you mind if I ask which store it is? What is the bike that has the broken spoke? I have black spokes over here that come in blank sizes. I do have a spoke cutter so I can make any size need and we can get this fixed for you on the spot. Please contact me at the Long Beach location at 562 421 4646 or send me a personal email and I can contact you. My email is [email protected].

Again, I am sorry for the inconvenience.

    Matt

I appreciate the offer, but I'm headed out of town (with the bikes) Saturday. It was the HB store. I'll get it taken care of sometime soon...as I said, I'm not going to go nuts because of one silver spoke. But I would like to get it replaced since they said they would.

Please give me a call when you get back. I will also call the store to see if I can get them a spoke so that we can get it changed when you get back. Have a fun and safe trip!

And now we're well into September. I've heard nothing since the call in July. Does it really take this long even on backorder?

And the spoke finally came in. 5 of them, though I only ordered one. Oh well, I'll hang on to the others just in case.

I am sorry for the delay. I know how frustrating these things can be. I am glad that you finally got them and have extras, just in case.

Happy riding to you. See you out on the trails some time.

/\ I have a feeling advertising for one's own shop in a review thread when not even financially supporting the site is a big no-no. It's also kind of bad taste. ;)

Wasn't sure what we can and cannot do. If it needs to be pulled, fully understand. Sorry if we were over stepping our boundaries.

Back order on a spoke, really?

May I ask what kind of wheel this was?

going to have to disagree on this one. Shops can no longer join or financially support this site anymore because george wont respond to any request. Shops late to the str "good old days" shouldnt be excluded from the site. If George wants the money he can ask them for it.

I wasn't going to keep going with this, but since you ask...

It's a Shimano RS-10. Not exactly an uncommon wheel. So, I got the 5 spokes, put them aside; didn't want to do anything with wheel until after I rode the Grizzly Century. So I get back from the Griz, go to a different bike shop (where I originally purchased the bike and probably should have gone with from the get-go - I'll give them a shout out on their page), and it turns out the spokes I got on backorder were too short. Yes, too short! So I had this other bike shop go ahead and get the right ones, which they did in about 3 days and I had the wheel true, tight, and back on the bike.

    Live and learn.
