Yes, all trails will be marked. In addition, volunteers will be at key spots to direct the riders at certain corners or assist at the several street crossings.

Are there bailout points? I am thinking of trying the 25-miler, but not familiar with the route. I am not sure if it is something that I can do. If I bonk are there bail out points?

After completing the loops in whiting ranch, the trail brings you right back to your car. If you go on from there towards oneill park, you pretty much have to ride back as far as you ventured. Keep in mind though, you are in town and pretty close to streets throughout the first 25, so an asphalt option ...or a pick-up is a phone call away.

I'm going to try the 50 with a couple of friends. We're going to do a pre-ride of the first 25 plus some of the 2nd 25 tomorrow for a possible total of 40 miles. Should be great weather for a bike ride!

Has anyone in the past ever pulled a kid on a Trail bike on the 25mile? Is it even allowed?

No reason why not. It's about like going around the Fully Loop twice. I know one member here who has pulled his kid around most of what we're riding.

    Typo

The first post on this thread has a Geoladders link to the 2010 event ….not the 2011.

I just caught that little typo when I uploaded last year’s event to my Garmin. Do you get extra credit if you ride last year’s course first? “100 mile ride”

I’m looking forward to the 50 mile ride, and my wife and two little Smittys (the rest of the team) are looking forward to volunteering.

Super fun time at the Rock N Road training ride this morning. My favorite part was when the sweeper took off on his own up the trail and abandoned a bunch of riders leaving them heading in every direction to find the trail or the main group or the sweeper to no avail. Great job hosting the group ride!!

Thankfully I met up with some really nice people and we decided to ride Whiting so we could at least get some miles in and have a little fun.

I really hope you are right.

just did the first half plus a few extra miles. we rode past the dove canyon waterfall to the rest area withe the water fountains. came out to slightly under 30 miles. we ran into the rock n road group at the waterfall on our way back.

i'm having serious doubts about making the 50 mile ride because while i did the 30 miles today and the 25 mile second half last week, im not sure im in good enough shape to make the full ride. shouldve started training earlier.

I really wanted to do the training ride this morning but I crashed pretty bad couple days ago on STT and messed up my shoulder so I couldn't made it this morning. However, I am disappointed to hear the training ride turned out not as what we might have expected which is guided all the way. Is this the group that started at the Rock N' Road Cyclery at Mission Viejo this morning? It just doesn't sound right that the sweeper decided to take off in the middle of the ride and leave people on their own!? #-o

Did the training ride out of Rock & Road this morning,,, didn't leave until almost 8:45 am... and there were still riders showing up. We had over 55 in our group. There was no tarrying... the pack quickly got split into three groups... I managed to hang on to the first until coming out of O'Neil... then dropped to the 2nd group... getting old sucks! Quite a few single speeders this morning. The route is in great shape. If you are thinking about doing the ride, at least consider doing the 25 miler. I guarantee that the new route is much more fun than the old. Mother Nature did us a favor making the reroute. It is better I feel... although I do miss doing the Tijera Creek part. Great weather we are having... hope it holds for next weekend!

The weather forecast calls for a high of 72 which is great. But Wed's high is 86, so we will see a midweek heat minor wave. Let's keep our fingers crossed and hope the forecast is right and the heat wave won't stick around.
