i'm pretty sure it involves passing the paper bag test. if your skin is lighter than the bag, you must be a citizen...

All adult citizens are already required to carry state issued identification cards. Not technically speaking, but you can be detained until your identification is established so...I'd call that required. Our state issued cards just don't currently have citizenship status on them.

Your reason and my reason may not always agree. Illegitimate reasons are made up every hour of every day.

If you get pulled over w/o your license in your possession...they will not just let you go UNLESS they feel you are who you claim to be....if they feel that there could be doubt b/c you don't know your DL number or you get your personal info wrong....they will detain you and have the right to arrest you until they figure it out....once they decide that you are who you are(claimed to be) and you have NO warrants they will release w/ only a possible citation for what you were originally pulled over for....

I only know this b/c it has happened to me...granted I wasn't taken in b/c I got all my info right....I did ask what would have happened if I didn't know my info in my cdl and failed to answer to their satisfaction...taken to the dept to figure it out was his response

Solidarity against the new law?? Geez. #-oI hope the Spurs take the series then. Their state is basically being raped by the illegals and they're against the law? What's this world coming to? :?: Oh yeah, Steve Nash, Amare Stoudemire, Jason Richardson, Grant Hill, Channing Frye, owner Robert Sarver and General Manager Steve Kerr aren't middle class. They all live in estates and during the offseason they hang out in Barbados, the Bahamas, etc. etc. These people don't feel the affect at all.

hey now. just because you're a fan of the most inappropriately named sports team ever, doesn't mean you get to toss around the word "rape" in this thread. the natives have done a pretty good job of ruining their own state.

it's so confusing. what exactly is the republican platform these days--preserving individual rights or taking them away?

Just came from a bar and listened to an hour of quality idioticy represented perfectly by that sign.

I still don't know where people are getting this idea that they don't pay taxes. Clearly the people making this claim have not thought for two seconds about how being an illegal here actually works.

Maybe the new arrival doing lawns for cash isn't paying taxes on that pittance, but neither is the high school kid that did that work before he showed up. Beyond that, anyone rcving a paycheck is paying taxes. You want a job, you need at least a fake/incorrect social security number. No number, no $. And correct or not, you get taxes taken out. Even if you never file, that money goes to the state, then to the fed. The difference is, when it's time to collect on those benefits, they'll have worked decades, but get nothing. Their money goes to us. And every other form of tax, yep, they're payin those too. Sales tax, business taxes, all of it. No one escapes the IRS. Want to talk about someone cheating income tax? Talk to two investment banking firms and you've just talked to a bigger tax loss than all the illegals combined if they weren't paying a penny. Talk to every waitress and bartender in the country who definitely all claim 100% of their tips on their taxes...

I keep seeing this "where will we house all these people??? Hell, I don't know, how about in the HUUUUUGE surplus of housing that developers spent the last decade replacing every bit of land they could get their hands on with, the lions share of which sits rotting unoccupied? Ah, but that's not who we were hoping to sell to, is it...

Half a million illegal immigrants last year doesn't mean squat compared to how many little bible-belt yuppie white offspring the breeders in our own country are busily squirting out. and what's this I'm looking at last months National Geographic, with a picture of 235 children from one single father in two generations passing. All right-wing nuts. Go forth and multiply, the lord will provide. Oh sure. The lord. And everyone else. Strikes me as a little more than latent tribalism, from the party of baby-makers and population exploders and proud government criticizers, all this rage and fury over the status on paper of half a million immigrants.

Or would we like to extend that rage and fury beyond Ariz, to the rest of the country? Now we're talkin! The Italians and Irish, Asians and Eastern Euros hopping off boats dozens at a time all day every day! The horror! Perhaps we should shoot them on sight as well. Not quote the same outrage when the bad guy is white, eh?

Either everyone who wants in gets in, and the total arseholes are taken out upon stepping over the line, or we need to establish some criteria regarding who we'd like to have as citizens of this country. I'd like to see a national citizenship day, where everyone who actually likes this country, and can pass a basic citizenship test, can stay. If you don't like it, can't even pass a basic citizenship test, then you deserve to be here even less than a total newcomer. You lose your citizenship, and we boot your unhappy ass to Mexico to see how you like being someones gardener somewhere else for a while. You can retake the test next year should you change your mind. This birthright entitlement routine doesn't work.

Well that pretty much wore the buzz off. Now look what ya did.

In far more interesting news, Wooly Mammoth blood was formulated from a 43,000 year old specimen, and found to be a superior cold-weather oxygenator. Also goes great with a little rum and a lemon.

Theodore Roosevelt's ideas on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN in 1907.

'In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language.. And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.'
    Theodore Roosevelt 1907
