Hey all! This has been a long time coming but it's here now. Since the start, STR has used a simple forum to be the buy/sell venue for us. Since we have outgrown this setup, an actual classifieds system has been installed. There is no post requirements anymore which will ease the work of moderators; however, there are some fees in the new classifieds. It's $1.50 for most ads, $2.00 for 'garage sales' and free for want to buy ads.

It's the same underlying software used on many other forums so it should feel somewhat familiar to some of you. Ads are organized into categories and there are lots of little features to help keep things efficient (watch lists, seller feedback, etc). Once there's a few ads in there I will activate a 'recent ads' list on the homepage.

Oh, and since I'm always looking for ways to thank subscribers (doo-hickey) - they won't have to deal with fees. AND I've also cut down the subscriber price for a year from $40 to $30. 6 month doo-hickey's are no longer available.

Since this could be the biggest structural change to STR in recent memory, I don't expect the transition to go super smooth but we'll do our best to make it work.

As always questions and comments are strongly encouraged.

    Thanks

It will be nice so we dont have people constantly trying to bypass the post requirement or make a bunch of junk posts to get to min post level.

Will the pay it forward thread stay?

    .

str is a local bike forum,I put stuff for sale sometimes and some items never get a response, I am not digging being charged $1.50 to put a $25.00 bike part for sale, that never sells. I guess I need to charge $26.50 and hope it sells?

You have a point, but if you buy a subscription you can bypass the fees and I'm sure you'll make enough to cover the cost eventually.

Look on the bright side of the fee - will keep spam out, sellers should take transaction more seriously, and it's still probably less than what you might spend on gas to meet up with a buyer.

Perhaps a non-fee section for people trying to get rid of free stuff?

Amen to the end of "feelers" aka I don't know how much I want but it better be good or else I'm not letting it go.

People who recently (within last two months) did subscriptions are getting partial refunds soon. :) Some already have theirs.

I am sure the fee is related to the cost of the tool. Makes sense to me!

Will I just need to redo it? I don't mind paying $30 for 1 year. I mean, it's only $5 more.

Classifieds look very cool, by the way.

Wow! That looks great! Nice timing for the ad so we can all see the new Classifieds in action!

    First bug noticed.

When I clicked on Burner's ad, the seller's info box shows up with my name on it...like I'm the one selling. The links look OK though.

I just clicked on Burner's ad and looking at the page it shows Margaritaman as the seller in the seller box. I suspect if you log in your screen name will be there. Just me or? Bug maybe.

    -Nice job George! :)

-One of the things I liked about the 25 post count minimum was it kept non-str "power sellers/trolls" off our site)... Do you think this change will keep people from becoming members for the sole purpose of selling something? What happens when a deal goes bad? What happens when a guy from "Canada" rips someone off (i.e. Pinkbike etc.)?

-How do non-subscribers "pay" for these ads?
