I'm selling a shock on eBay. I've specified that I'll only ship to the U.S. I received this question about the item. Hi mate, I'm really keen on the shock you have for sale but i live in australia so was wondering if i could bid on it and should i win get it posted to my girlfriend in wisconsin? I'd be able to pay with paypal easy enough. Do you guys see any possible scam here? Seems okay to me, but I'm an eBay newb. Thanks for the help.
not a scam but looks like a hassle, his g/f should buy it legit from ebay and avoid 3rd party bullsh!t
If he's paying with PayPal you should be fine. Just don't send the item until the funds are in your PayPal account.
I can say from experience, only ship to a confirmed address... If he has a confirmed address in Wisconsin then fine ship it there... Paypal won't cover it if you don't ship to a confirmed address.....
As long as he pays you via PayPal first. Then ship it where ever he wants after you receive payment. Except no other form of payment.
i dont think you can associate a different paypal account to another ebay user. as in, the auction was won by an ebay user that MIGHT have their own paypal account. also seller protection will be screwed because your getting the money from somebody else. to me it sounds fishy. i can use my friend's paypal, send you the money. you send me the package. my friend says his paypal was hacked, gets the money back from the seller. seller is than stuck with no money and no more part. i wouldn't...
I have done a sale similar to this on Ebay with no hassle. He's tring to save the heavy import fees from the sale, his "Girlfriend" can ship it to him as a gift. My .02> For you its waaaaaay easier to ship to Wisconsin the Aussieland But if you feel weird about it, block him from bidding. 9 times out of 10 International bidders low ball to cover shipping and don't win the item anyways
Chewyeti: why would a dude in ozzy... have a chick in wisconsin? everyone knows aussie chicks are hotter! Maybe she's an Aussie too and is just attending school in Wisconsin as an International student As long as a payment is made via PayPal and safely in your bank account, I'd ship the item to whatever address he wants. I've purchased things in the past on eBay and had them shipped to a temporary address. The buyer will have to include his permanent address when he posts the payment with PayPal so it shouldn't be a problem for you (just make sure it isn't in Nigeria :lol If you are unsure what to do, you could also contact PayPal directly to confirm what their policy is prior to accepting a bid.
Paypal's policy only covers items that are shipped to the confirmed address associated with the paypal senders account, this protects both the seller and the buyer. If the buyer is willing to do that and you rcv transfer of funds, there really isnt a problem. I usually take an extra step when selling online, as well.. 1. I exchange contact info. Phone numbers, mailing addresses, email addresses. Once I have the phone number I actually call the person to confirm everything is on the up and up, if I suspect anything fishy. I've been selling and buying online through ebay and local forums and boards for the better part of 8 yrs now, with zero issues. take it for what its worth..
Seller beware... It shall only be shipped to a Paypal confirm address only. Even if the funds clear, the buyer can claim he never received the package, which was shipped to the wrong address and the funds can be reversed. The account funds will them be put on hold for the amount charged. EBay seller for 7 Years, been there before. Have him place his girl friends address as one of the confirmed mailing address on his account, he can have more then one confirmed mailinfg address, takes a few minute to do, covers your sale.
+1. I added my work address and my parent's address to my paypal account so I can get stuff shipped wherever is convenient for me.
+2 Paypal will take the money out of your account even without the return of the shipped item. That's why most ebayers will not ship overseas. Paypal cannot confirm foreign addresses, therefore no seller protection.
I've had a lot of similar deals here on STR. People find the items I'm selling when doing a search, and then they join STR to PM me (I think I've contributed to a lot of new STR memberships this way). On these deals, I always insist on USPS money orders and a US shipping address (although I did sell a frame and parts to Sweden once, but he paid with a credit card through my former employer). I won't deal with the risks associated with paypal. http://paypalsucks.com/ I've never had a problem with these out of ordinary deals.
I agree that he should just have his g/f in the states buy it on ebay rather than the 3rd party deal. The other part with unconfirmed address is valid as well. Say he pays via paypal and you ship to an unconfirmed address, he then files as never received through his bank or credit card, paypal will not fight for you or cover your loss. I am an avid ebay member with a 100% positive score of 906 so I have experience. The biggest piece of info you have is his own feedback profile, if he has a good score, with a sufficient number of positive feedback left, than you are probably fine. Also, require he pay for insurance on the shipping, and use Fedex or UPS so you have excellent tracking & delivery detail. You could also require a signature on the shipping, if doing so to the US, all of this is really easy.
