    Tani,
Perhaps one notification in Marketplace is sufficient. Sometimes we may not know when the hot new product shows up in shops, so there is certainly value to this type of posts. Even if someone isn't interested or not able to get the item from The Path, at least the person knows that they could ask their own shop.

I definitely don't care that these 'advertisements' show up every so often but it does seem like a bit of 'spamming' to me. Obviously many str members appreciate it but I've seen other people on here get shunned away for "spamming" or pretty much promoting their product/store/whatever. Just kind of a double standard IMO and I would hate to see this site turn into the sunday paper with ads everywhere.

What if we unpack the 120 mm travel 29er fork (none of us in the shop even knew this was going to exist till about a week ago), and we all freek out? Brian posts in the marketplace that it's here? Later that day, the new 40 comes out of another shipment. We are all checking it out, and figuring out the direct mount stem compatability, and retrofitability etc. Should we keep it to ourselves? I feel more like telling my freinds than spamming.

I wish I had been the one attacked today. It is for me that they are spamming if it is indeed spam.

We really don't post it unless we all stop what we are doing to look at it. If it is that exciting to the jaded bike shop employees, it must have value to somone.

    peace

It must be the full moon or something because everyone seems a bit on edge these past few days.

I'll blame it all on Dino for starting that women's post ;)

not trying to attack you or your shop, just saying it probably doesnt belong in this section of the site.

It seemed more like an 'inventory update' then a for sale ad. I think the spirit of this section of STR is for individuals to sell their parts.

I would be more than happy to throw more money at your shop, but i would probably do moreso if i could click a banner ad that i know is supporting the site (and the STR discount is a great thing!!!).

basically, other shops do 2 things they 1) buy ad space 2) dont flood the board with inventory or stock updates.

All of the above is with all due respect.

    Thanks

Using your example, if you did open up another box to discover something else really cool, take some pictures and share them with us! Just saying "the newest cool iterms are in" isn't really exciting or interesting. Showing off the cool goodies is. Just saying "We have cool stuff, and you have to come here to see it" often strikes people as spam. Showing photos and sharing information on the latest products adds serious value. You know what they say about the worth of pictures...

Also, since you and your staff represents a business, how things are presented should be a little more planned out. Perhaps the posts could be titled in a consistent manner, such as "Latest at The Path: Fox 29er Forx." It'll still be considered by some as spam, but at least they're will be a consistent approach.

I'm not the STR police or even speaking on behalf of the STR majority. Personally, I don't really care that much. It's just another thread. I'm just an individual working on building an unrealistic idealogical world.

Thanks for adding some detail on the 40, but I still want to see pictures!

By the way, are there any other differences other than the direct mount stem for the '09 40 from the '08 model?

if its just the Direct mount stem thats different I would just buy a 2nd party stem. I know go-Ride and two other companies make one.

If its white then it looks like you'll have to take the stickers off and get the lowers painted black
that way you'll also know how to take apart the fork if you've never done it before :-k

Sorry Chewy i beg to differ.
I know it was with respect, and i dont mean to "diss" you with this or anything cuz we're homies, however, i would say they were right in posting this in the Marketplace.
On a Technicality, the market place is for reviewing bike shops, Sharing Coupons, and Selling/Buying things. In their defense, this is a sharing of their coupon that says all 29'er forks are 15% off :?:

I will e-mail my PR head. From now on all of our spam will be well cooridinated, with a cinsistant wording and theme. We will always include pictures, and from now on our logo too. :)

I love you Lee, but I am just trying to oint out that we are not like that. We are much more organic than that.

Some STR people should be charged 15% extra for all the time and energy Tani has to spend defending his shop for nothing more than offering the people of STR an opportunity to check out products they have been asking for.

Some STR people shouldnt Nag so much. I think theyre just jealous they arent a succesfull bike shop owner (like Tani) who gets to "Brag"(Unlike Tani) about all the new products he gets before anyone else (Like Tani)

    Well,

We have been working on a banner add or adds for str. It just keeps getting back burnered while we deal with an unforseen surge in business.

We try not to flood the boards, but this is the time of year when a lot of new exciting stuff shows up.

We are selling these forks, but I don't see how that makes it any less spamy.

Carla, Brian and myself are active users of this board. We all post on lots of non business related topics. I try never to let a tech question go without seeing that it got a good answer. That does not mean I answer every question. Often, I am happy with the answers that are up before I see it. We all count tons of you as personal freinds.

I don't know if a few posts a month about product releases is flooding, but maybe I have a warped perspective.

I feel that there has been a small but strong anti path group on here lately. The aproach seems to be pick us apart any chance you get. Then, if anyone dissagrees with you, they are crazy Path loyalists trying to slam anyone who does not like The Path.

I didn't comment on it at the time, but looking back nobody got slammed, just dissagreed with.

Bottom line. We will do whatever the powers that be at STR want. This is a great sight. It does not need bickering.
