I see what you are saying about the torque but the cassette was making bad noises even when not under great pressure.

I had heard from a friend that was looking on posts as well that the forks are crap on the treks even the new ones and should be replaced and I didnt know enough at that point to make a wise decision. I thought it would be a great bike at that point.

I understand they dont like bringing in parts but if they would have told me the first time I would have to replace everything I would have a new bike. I would have got one in a heart beat if I new. So they didnt do there job if they did they would have sold a bike.

Besides that all the rock n road employees read this and it is just further proof that the owners never do crap about what mistakes the employees make. All they would have to do Is accept there mistakes and do there job right when I bring it back in. Instead they continued to do a bad job and just hope I would leave cuz there ego's just can not take it.

Sorry to hear you have not had good experiences with them.

My experience with Rock and Road has been nothing but positive.
They do the service on my bike, and I buy the parts from them.
Always friendly and helpful, and problems corrected in the same manner.

Just a week ago I needed front and rear disc pads, they installed while I waited.
    Doesn't get better than that.

your complaint should be with a service manager. going on a message board and bitching will do nothing for you or them and likely won't change the minds of customers here. maybe try going and having a discussion with a service manager. let them know about the issue like a real person.

i will admit, i am biased. i love Rock N' Road and i thank them for supporting some of the local athletes and races as well as the largest amateur team in the nation (Sho-Air) and some awesome women (Rn'R Divas).

The amount of times I was in there the service manager should have picked up on the mistakes and made sure to go through the bike completely. I was willing to deal with a mistake but 3 times bringing my bike back and never getting a phone call back that is 4 chances they had to do right and they chose not too. I dont want it to do anything for me but it is proof that they have bad business practice just because they have a smart marketing strategy by sponsoring rides does not make them perfect and please feel free to reply.

I understand the thought of not buying a new bike, but by the time you're done fixing your v-brake, 8-yr old bike, you could have bought any number of bikes in the $600 to $800 range that would be superior to your old one. What you should have done is joined STR first, posted a thread to get opinions on whether it was worth doing all the work on the old bike instead of joining the site to complain about an LBS.

I have no skin in the game here -- I'm not a patron of Rock and Road -- but you blew any credibility by going down the street to buy a fork at a cheaper price and bringing it back to have them mount it. Did you ever think they may have given you a break on labor had you bought it from them? You're probably now labeled by R-n-R as a pain in the a$$ and they don't want your business. Go to the shop where you bought the cheap fork and have them install it.

Good luck on the trails and your goal of dropping weight.

I'd have to cut MV location some slack right now if it were me in your shoes.. They're in the midst of a remodel and I can understand how the employees may be in a bit of a hectic situation right now. The past few times I've been in there to buy some stuff, it took a few minutes to get some one's attention because they were all running around like chickens with their heads cut off, but it was understandable. They're trying to get their store in order (again), operate the back and front of the store while it's torn up, and over all just keep the shop operating. The only issue I ever had at RnR was the dude who sold me my bike - he was a bit uncaring, but from what I can tell he's no longer working there. :)

Okay well if you would have read earlier you would realize that they never let me know the brake and and fork where bent I noticed it myself after they had done there tune up and sold me over $250 of product. When I first went in they never suggested getting a new bike they sold me all the other supplies and a deraileur. When they where doing the tune up and installing the deraileur they never did an inspection to see what was wrong with the bike if they had I would have gotten a bike. That's the gripe they didn't do there job properly, they lost sales. It is not my fault if you took your car to get fixed the mechanic will call you within an hour of drop off to tell you what needs to be replaced so it can be taken care of in a timely manner. Basically rock n road would be like a shop you take your car too for an inspection but they give it back with bad brakes, low oil, crust on the battery, and a loose wheel. basically if it where cars they would be shut down. And as for joining STR, I found out about it a week ago so sorry I'm not perfect.

Oh really, explain to me please how the service department which was not being remodeled may be in a bit of a hectic situation? I went in, and wouldn't you know it? They have a contractor doing the work!!! They have plenty of other employees to do that work the mechanics need to focus on the bikes and if it is affecting the mechanics that is just another ding on management.

I took wheel in to the anahiem hills location to have a spoke repaired. I had a spare so I did nt bother to call and kinda forgot about it. 11 days later I popped in to pick it up. They told me they could not get the spoke and to try another shop. I won't go on about what they should have done, but I will go on to another shop next time I need "service."

It is hit and miss with R and R. A relative of mine brought his bike into have a complete service done on his bike ($250.00) and when he got it back he went for a ride. About a mile in his crank arm fell off. R and R forgot to put on the cap and tighten the bolts. A slight oversight.... Luckily he wasn't haulin A$$ going down some fast singletrack... could have ended badly. I have had pretty good experiences with their service dept. I just had a cable replaced with no problems. Moral to the story- do your own service if you can.

Why the ridicule toward Nirvana42087?:-k Isn't this the place for personal reviews, good, bad, or indifferent?:?:. If this review were for the Bike Co., I'm sure the responses would have been different.

Having never been in before, I brought my bike into RnR to talk about numerous upgrades.

I got a weird vibe right away from the cat that was to be helping me. He only reluctantly shook my hand. He seemed to be suppressing sheer disdain for the task before him (or something)--at least that's the vibe I got. He shot down every upgrade spec I brought up--it was so obvious that he actually mentioned it. (He didn't offer compelling rationale behind refuting my suggestions/wants, just appeared disagreeable.) During some dead air I stated, okay, thanks, I guess I'll be on my way, when he whipped out his phone and started snapping pix of my rig. Said he would let me know some ideas via email.

Two weeks later I'd still heard nothing from him, and I decided to work with The Path on my project (awesome work, pretty close to what I had spec'ed with a few changes, personable service, no ego, quick turnaround, good communication). I emailed the guy to cease any effort, and he replied something like "let me know if I can do anything else for you." Else?!

I can appreciate that someone might have a bad day. If that's you and you're in customer service, you should take the day off. I'm sure his employer would take big issue with his behavior. I've since had The Path do two other bike builds and have otherwise dropped considerable coin there because they treat me like a customer.

I broke my free hub body on the climb out of the luge over the weekend and had to call around to see if anyone had one in stock or can order it on the fly. Made a few calls to a couple of the more popular OC lbs and had no luck (will keep the names under wraps so I won't offend anyone). One local lbs that I frequent from time to time told me that they can't even order it. I was stunned to hear that they can't order a part from Shimano, so I gave them another call the following day. A different employee answers and quoted me $71 bucks and about a week minimum. I needed the part ASAP so I decided to shop around a bit more to see who can get it quicker. Mike at FB was VERY helpful, however, they were a bit tied up with the convention and would also take about a week or so. Their price was approximately $65 with a 15% STR discount (awesome). I decided to call RnR in MV and they told me that it will take 2-3 days. I headed over there immediately to order the part. As I entered for their shop for the very first time I was impressed. It was nice, spacious, clean, and very organized. I was immediately greeted by someone and he ended up placing the order for me. It took about 6 mins and I was on my way. Order was placed on Monday and picked it up today. Price was $35 bucks plus tax. A couple of other guys there were also very helpful as I had other questions. Great first time experience and they delivered as promised. I'll definitely be back for more.

I'd never been to Rock N Road before, but months back had purchased the OC Deal of the Day to get $100 worth of merch for $50 and needed to finally use it before it expired.
went to the anaheim hills location.
staff were super helpful and answered questions about tires, weighed them for me, etc.
seemed like a fine shop, it's just pretty far away from me.
I scored though, they were having a sale on tires (20% off) so I got a new set of Butcher SX tires (normally $65 each) for just about the cost of my coupon ($50).

    anyhoo, no complaints here.

I stopped by the Mission Viejo store. They have a bike hanging in the window was checking the weight since it is on a wire when one of the cashiers came over and scolded me and gave me a lesson on bike store edict. Don't think I will be back.

So... you were messing with a bike hanging by a wire in the front of the store as a display and when asked to stop, by the store employee and you were offended? I can't think of any retail store that would not ask any customer not to mess with their display. If the bike was hanging by a wire, there's probably safety issues also.
