    Mechmann,
There was talk weeks ago of you leading a "Skillz" ride on the 24 hr course. I think it was maybe going to happen friday afternoon?
Is that still an option or did the "big saturday" ride change those plans.

I'm planning to get there Friday around 1 or so. I'd love to ride the course with someone, but I know if 10 minutes goes by and I don't have someone to ride with I'll get impatient and just ride the course myself.

If you thought there might be a 4 o'clock ride (or something) I would to be back for that.

Ah, I see how it is, only secret, under the radar rides. ;) . If I don't get a pm invitation, I guess I will have to find my own ring leader, eh? Anyone wanna take the lead on the "old farts" ride???? Don't make the Denmother cry!!!!:-({|= I guess I will work on recruiting my own ring leader. :-k

That is what we are doing. I have a color map from the ISC site and the written/text directions. Aside from that we are on our own

I don't think we'll be there early enough Friday for an afternoon ride (night lap maybe).

Assuming we get our big(ger) ride done at a decent hour I'd be down for like a 5pm 24 hour lap maybe. I am hoping we are back before then.

30 miles shouldn't take 5-6 people more than 6 hours or so. I am almost positive Justin and I did it in 7 hours in spring of 06 and we are all way faster than the two of us were then. If we can be back by like 3 we should be able to have a few snacks and then head back out mebbe.

Nancy - I never expected to have 59 people at the campout for riding. It's just too many people to have everyone doing one ride. I'm sure there will plenty of groups breaking up, so just find some peeps in the morning and tag along. I know you guys will be ready to go before Gene is up for his dawn lap

Should we throw up some loose outlines for the rides on the Calender so everybody can get an idea about what’s going on & we can see who’s interested in what? I know we don’t want to be tied to anything, but some people will only come for a day. We can see how many groups we need to break into

    I was thinking

    Saturday

    A Ride
Mann Madness 30 miles of climbing at altitude, some technical descending, 7/8 hour day
    Strong intimidate advanced riders only
    Departing 8.30 ish

    B Ride
Shuttle Ride from town Ernie Maxwell etc back to camp, 15 miles plus, some technical descending, mostly also a long ride due to volume of group size
    Intimidate advanced riders
    Departing 9.00

    C Ride
Hurkey Creek or local riding, 10 miles & easier terrain
Beginner intermediate, mellow ride for a couple of hours
    Departing 9.30

Not forgetting Gene’s pre dawn special for those with insomnia or still drunk from the night before!

    Sunday

    A Ride
Little Thomas Mountain / Ramona trail, good steady climb, followed by some sweet single track, rocky in places with some tasty switchbacks (Mileage?)
    Intimidate advanced riders
Departing 9.30 / 10 am (I guess we’ll need to pack up before this ride)

    B Ride
Hurkey Creek or local riding, 10 miles & easier terrain.
Beginner intermediate, mellow ride for a couple of hours
    Departing 9.30

We put these up as scheduled rides to get an idea on numbers.

I'm guessing Sundays ride will be big & we could most likly run a trip on the Romona Trail on Saturday too. I haven't ridden much up here, anyone other than the Manns able to Step up as a Ride leader, I'll be right there to help.

    Thoughts?

Ian, you rock for attempting to organize something here :) Much braver than most of us.

Hopefully others can chime in as well, since other than the ride I want to do on Saturday I have not heard anything about rides/groups, etc.

The only thing I can see about doing the "B" group ride as the shuttle is that this is probably where most people will be. There is very little parking up near the Ernie Maxwell trailhead, and it may be full of hikers.

Another option is to drive up Southridge fire road, but it's at least a mile long, super steep, and will take 4WD pretty much to manuever up and down. Just as an FYI!

I'm down for whatever on Sunday. I'm sure I'll be sore and tired. Hopefully we can get a group to head out to Thomas Mountain - Ramona Trail. It's a great loop.

Allison, does your "A" ride include Ernie Maxwell's? I really want to do that trail.

Since Neil is busy at work and doesn't have time to read/reply this thread:

But in case anyone is interested:

I know he is planning on riding the 24hr course on Sunday (24 race in 3 weeks) as well as other trails (don't know which ones).

For me Sat will be very mellow riding/hiking with Maddie - not sure of a start time - I just want her to be out riding her bike  and enjoy the company of others we love from STR.

It'll make the ride about 35 miles and additional climbing, but we can probably add it in once we get up there. It's pretty close to Southridge fire road, so we can just go straight instead of climbing up.

^^It's less taxing (but IMO less fun) to climb the fire road up to Ernie Maxwell...

Last year did you do Erine & Romona in the same day? i was trying to find the thread but give up. It looks like there could be close to 40 peeps looking to the same ride on Saturday. Maybe have Romona & Erine as an option on both days?
Run the rides in the morning so people can hit up the Hurkey courses later in the day

No, we did Thomas Mountain - Ramona Trail on Saturday with probably 22 people? A few of the faster people I think went back to camp early, and the rest of us waited up. I think Andy went back with his car to pick up his buddy.

Sunday we shuttled Ernie Maxwell. There were probably like 14 of us? If that?

I just picked a weekend. The rides are basically up to everyone else since there are far too many people to plan just one ride. :)

I know it’s late for this but I have room at my site for a tent. The catch is I don’t have room for a vehicle. If anyone needs a spot for a tent it’s your’s just send me a pm.

My wife may join you with the trailer.:)

I hope there are more rides than just those all day ones that start at 9 am. It would be nice to let the wife do a real MTB ride while I watch JR which won't happen if I'm gone all day.

I figure Friday will be the "get settled and get a quick ride in day". That night when everyone is sitting at the campfires, we can talk about all the rides going on and they can decide which ride to join. I'm up for the 30 miler Sat and whatever on Sun.

I don't think that Thomas Mountain was all day last year. We probably left around 9 am (or 9:30, it was a later start than planned, I forget why). I can't remember when we got back, but I know we had lunch and I guess just hung around? Hmmm.. Anyone remember?

Looked it up. It took 5 hours total. Not sure what time we left, but there was a bit of down time. :)
