Question rear der. cable destruction??

so i raced home from work today...threw the bike on the back of the car and battled traffic to the nearest trail-head.

geared up and headed out....wtf!!

this has happened twice now in the last few months. the section of cable between the cable adjuster and cable fixing plate is frayed destruction.

i know that is a pretty vulnerable section of cable (rocks, etc.) but i just want to be sure that something else isn't the culprit. i think the first time might have been due to over-tightening during the initial build.

it's a new xt der.

thanks.

Check that the plate under the fixing bolt doesn't have any sharp edges. I've cut cables there before.....and as the der moves through it's stroke, it continues to cut it. You may just be able to file off any edges if it's the issue....

Perhaps you are over tightening the fixing bolt and cutting the cables in the process.
