So I've only had my BB7s since June when the bike was new, but already the rear rotor is warped to the point where it is hard to set up the rear brakes so they don't rub the pad.
Is it possible to re-flatten a rotor without doing even more damage? If so, how should I do this? Thanks.

If it's not that bad, just take an adjustable wrench and slowly bend it back into position a little at a time.

Thanks Nam. I think I will buy a new rotor and then play around with the warped one to see if I can make it live again.

I had a rotor that had a bend in it. It wasn't too bad, but it wobbled enough to heavily rub both sides. I noticed it the night before I did a fast and steep DH ride. After the ride, the rotor was straight! I'm guessing that using it [a lot] under those conditions - I nearly cooked the brakes - may have straightened it out. That was a couple years ago, and I am still using that rotor.

Throw some Dee's on it

there is a tool made by park tools, that perfectly hooks to the rotor and you bend it

Forgive my ignorance, but would Hayes rotors work with Avids? Do they all have the same bolt pattern for attaching to the hub? If it works, I'll take you up on the offer.

yeah any rotor should work with any caliper. ive had trouble with hope rotorson my hayes just because the machined center was a tad bit wide. other than that your golden. ppl will jsut think your running hayes.
the only different hub patterns are shimano rotors with the centerlock. other than that, they'll 6-bolt.

Pony up a few bucks to buy a new one from the "take off" bin at your local shop.

Adjust your BB7's so that the rotor is as close to the inside brake pad as possible. Unlike a hydraulic brake only the outside pad of the BB7 moves so every braking usage tends to warp the rotor. edit - if you use a non-Avid rotor check (how?) that the arms are as beefy as the Avid. |
