Default Avid Juicy 7 issue... brand new

Ok.. so bought a 185mm rotor/avid juicy 7 setup for front and rear.

put it on friday night. rode with STR from brea to chino and back, and my front brake had zero function at the end of the ride. so i say.... air in the lines? hmm.. factory bled.

so i buy a bleed kit today. Thanks jensons!

so i bleed the brakes... simpler than a car. all done...

Test it they say!

so i pull on the front brake. stops nicely.
so while sitting and enjoying a tasty brew, i pull the brake... nice pressure, but if you pull it hard enough (panic stop) fluid weeps past the caliper bleed screw! WTF! brand new! i know where my air entered and my fluid exited apparently!!!

what do i do?!!!

Only thing i can think of is there's an o-ring on the torx screw, make sure you didn't cut it reinstalling the screw....

Default Check the o ring

I think there's an o ring that completes the seal for that caliper bleed screw.

interesting. I literally took the setup OUT-OF-THE-BOX and it leaked.

I dont remember there being an oring when i took the screw out to bleed, so SRAM left it out?

can a shop get me just the seal without a rebuild kit?

SRAM techie support said to go to local bike shop, as they do not deal with consumers directly.

Aaron, you should be able to get an EPDM o-ring at Home Depot that should fit your size. Do not use natural rubber or nitrile rubber with brake fluid. EPDM or silicone only. If you need help, PM me.

latest update if anyone cares lol....

tyler at jensons looked at it.
sram mfgr over torqued the banjo bolt to the front caliper, and will not warranty it. They said send it back to the retailer.

tyler can get the parts for under 20 bucks.....

kinda lame... but it is what it is.

What's the eBay seller say?

It's not the quantity of bleeds, it's the quality of the bleed. The brakes aren't inherintly mushy - it's simply a matter of a bad bleed job. Take your bike to someone who is capable.

I run two sets of J7 brakes - one on my DH bike and the other on my AM bike. It took them a while to bed in and stop squealing. I thought they sucked as well. But after a dozen or so rides, there became silent. However, some squeaks can result from installation-related issues.
