Im sure all of you know me by now as the one that always wants so many things but i never can do them from lack of money or other things...but then again, at fifteen years oldd its ok to dream big ehh?
![]() well i started racing XC at the Incycle cross country challenge at bonelli a few weekends ago and raced the heaviest bike out there. I've been thinking about sellingmy Giant AC for awhile now but now im thinking i should buy some new stuff to lighten it up and use it as my training bike... I think its fair to say my AC weighs in around 33 pounds or so, maybe even more and i really want to lighten it up.. There are a few parts i do need right now which are, new rear deraiuller, new 9 speed cassette, grips, and a rear shock,.... the rear shock i am going to do without though... so here's my question... i have about 150$ and i need a new derraiuler and a new cassette at the minimum but i was wondering if you had any other ideas on how to lighten my bike up even more without spending alot on new wheels and what not.. i was thinking along the lines of handlebars, cranks and whatnot Any help would be cool ![]() -B

Tires are usually the biggest bang for your buck in terms of losing a good bit of weight for not too much money. I'd say try and get a good set of xc tires and the cassette and that derailleur you need. Make sure you're not using dh tubes either.

i had 2.5 tires on it until the day before the race... drops almost 4-5 pounds easily by changing to lighter tires and thinner tubes that werent thorn resistant

Get an XT cassette or 990 cassette. 11-34T
If you have Shimano, find an '05 or '06 XTR der. About the same price online as a new XT. What are the other parts on the bike? If you need a new seat, an SDG I beam setup is pretty light. Check out http://weightweenies.starbike.com/ |
