So, how do I fix that? Longer/shorter stem, handlebars, fork, etc?

Thanks in advance!
I know this is prolly a repeat but try steering a little more....

That's why very slack bikes are meant to be pointed down hill

Maxxis Ignitor rear...hooks up awesome! I would put some more bite up front than a Small Block 8...I am running a Minion front.

And, I'm considering switching tires front and back to Small Block 8s. Comments?

Brendan, whenever I ride my SS for an extended period of time and switch back to my Intense, I go thru the same thing. I have to remind myself the first 10 min. of the ride which bike I'm on.

Only if you are considering climbing Noble..

Why did you want SB8's f/r?? I had one on the rear of my SS for awhile to help with rolling resistance.

Probably a good BMX, MTX, and maybe super rolling XC race tire. Otherwise stick with something with better traction.

I always rave about Nevegal's but mostly everyone on here just says I'm nuts.

i tried the same tire on the front of my stumpjumper and found it like to wash out ,even with weight on the front tire. i switched to a motoraptor on the front and i have no problems now. i did keep the velocirator on the rear, i love that tire, it hooks up like crazy. hope this helps.

Put a heavy double ply 2.7 downhill tire on the front, that should keep that sucker planted.

Brendan--there is a quirky steering issue with some of the '05 Reigns. There was a thread about it on MTBR awhile ago. Mine had the same issue and it could not be fixed no matter what my mechanic and I tried. I still don't know what caused it.

It's hard to explain but it is definitley an issue. I'll try to find the MTBR thread.

I think Lee has it nailed. I have a fork that goes from 130 to 150mm and I originally had it at 150mm and for the same reason brought it down to 140mm and it improved the steering, but learning to put the weight (or pressure) on the front in turns has improved my cornering far more drastically and it continues to improve the more I work on it. So much so that I am going to let the fork back out to 150mm and I think I'll be fine.

I also tried a short stem (tried several all the way down to 90mm), but felt like I was going OTB when hard on the brakes. Ended up with a 130mm stem which sounds whacked, but remember I am 6'5".

The only other thing I might suggest is a Kenda Nevegal front tire. The Velociraptor is one of my favorites, but the Nev has it beat IMHO for the riding I do.

You need to roll on the big hoops! Then you will know what if feels like to be "in" the bike and corner like it is on rails

By the time I'm ready to throw down for my next bike, I'm hoping the fork and wheel options have expanded. The gearing sitch could use a look too.

But seriously, I'd love to give one a try. The last year has been a watershed for the breed.

The RIP9 and the Ventana El Rey are two that have my attention right now.

Did I say that? I also ride a SS and a couple Intenses. However, at my age (can I blame that?), it takes me much longer than 10 minutes to adapt (especially to the M3).

Speaking of the SS, I think you guys are confusing him with tire suggestions, blaming it on strange "known" quirks, etc. He just needs to adapt to the bike. For many years, people have been riding just fine with the classic Velociraptor. It's not a bad tire. Learning to ride within the limits of a tire will help his overall riding. My SS has a Mutanoraptor, and that's one of the worst steering tires when pushed hard (it's light and fast, though), but riding within its limits it does just fine.

After you learn to adapt to your current setup you'll do even better on a better tire. But going to a different tire without changing your riding style won't cure anything.

rode a demo El Rey and didn't really like it. The RIP has a really low BB. So if you run 180mm or longer cranks that would be an issue. The gearing sitch is not that big a deal (you get used to it).

I ended up getting the Homer Sultan. If you see me on one of the group rides your welcome to try it.
