Default Is this an overkill?

So im in the market for some new brakes. I have a 07 Rocky Mountain slayer sxc 70 with the stock juicy 5's. The brakes are fine, im just looking to improve on what i already have. So heres the question, I can get a killer deal on the 08 Avid Codes. Are these too much for a 6 inch travel bike? Anyone have any feedback on these? Any other systems out there that youre stoked on? Any info is much appreciated. -marc-

I run Magura Gustav M's on my 6" travel bike so no, I wouldn't say it is overkill. Go for the codes and laugh at everyone whos brakes can't stop a motorcycle

Is there much of a weight penalty? If so, are you ok with that? What size rotors do you have? If you have 6" rotors, are you going with 8" rotors? Do you DH your Slayer or are you going to the Codes for bling?

The real question is what size rotors are you running now? Also do you mind the extra weight the Codes will add? If not go for it, you can probably get a decent buck if you sell your J 5's.

Thanks for all the responses. Sounds like ill probably go with the Codes . Im running 6 inch rotors now and ill probably want to keep it at that. My riding is more on the agg. side so id put them to good use. You guys will be the first to know when the Juicy 5's are available for sale. I have a set of Dangerboy levers on them too.

A 7" rotor will make your 5's stop much better. I would do that first and see if you are happy with the performance.

I would also use at least 7" for the Codes too.

I have an 8" rotor on the front for my Juicy Ultimates and a 7" in the back.
