first parts to go on the dawg supreme frame I got will be a wheel set after I install the headset/fork stuff.
Been looking around on jenson for something not too expensive and the Mavic Crossride http://www.jensonusa.com/store/produ...AllReviews=y#5 Mavic Crossland http://www.jensonusa.com/store/produ...+Wheelset.aspx both came up, plenty of reviews, favored a bit and i think i'd be comfortable going with either on a disc and 9spd when this is done, but the lack of UST on the Crossrides makes me wonder if I should go with those. I'm sure someone here has either set, can you let me know how they hold up and what they're good/bat at. Thanks! |

I'd steer clear of both. Get a handbuilt set with some DT 4.1 or 5.1 rims and Hope Pro II hubs

i've seen that combo mentioned a couple times on mtbr but the lack of bike knowledge i currently posses is making me question how a wheel is built and whether that's a DIY thing too. However I like the Mavic 819 rims instead |

Since you asked specifically about the Crossrides and Crosslands--I have the Crosslands and they are a sweet wheelset for the money. If you want to run tubeless you can. If you want to run tubes, you can.
I rode them when I weighed 270 lbs and never had them go out of true. I still run them on my HT and they are solid. Great wheels for the money--and you said you wanted to stay inexpensive. Beyond Bikes has them for $249.99 for the set: http://www.beyondbikes.com/BB/ItemDe...FAC%2DXlandSil

update: i'd like to go with
Mavic XM 819 Disc Rim Out of Stock $64.98 x 2 = $129.96 Hope Pro 2 Disc Hubs Front $75 Pro 2 Disc HubsRear, 32 Hole, 135mm Spacing $177 Total: $381.96but that's nearly twice the cost of either of those two wheelsets, and doesn't include spokes or having the LBS build each wheel. I think i'll keep saving ![]() |
