Default International standard? Post mount? WTF?

AAHHHHHHHHH!!!! Has anyone else come across this problem? I am trying to mount a shimano brake caliper to my new 08 fox fork with their new post mount system and a 180mm rotor...

got this beautiful new fork installed and I can't take it out for a ride with no front brake!

the adapter that was on the caliper with my old for is for International Standard. apparently international standard is a bit of a misnomer, eh?

well i have my LBS ordering the supposed magical adapter, crossing my fingers...can't even find any info on the internets for this. anyone else run into this?

which Shimano caliper is it? older ones, and the new XTR are specific to rotor size (just another way that Shimano can be a pita)

yup that looks like the one I was thinking of, it just extends the length of the post mount. 100% the right part. If your LBD can't get it from a wholesale supplier, I think it's on the list of parts that Shimano will sell bike shops (they normally don't sell components, but they do sell service stuff!)

Here is another option for you, if you can't get the Shimano version. The Manitou post mount is the same as your Fox fork.

On my 08 Fox 36, I used an Avid adapter to work with my Avid brakes and 180 mm rotor.

still waiting...

still haven't received my adapter yet. on order from my LBS. i don't understand why this style adapter is so tough to find. is it because fox in just now going to post mount? i thought that manitou is post mount?

although maybe it is my size rotor that is odd. if i was running 160mm i could bolt it right up. or if i wanted to put a 203mm on it.

btw:

this site seems to carry almost all the different adapters, for future reference...

Default If this helps,

You can usually use the Hayes or Avid version of that adapter.

Finally got a hold of the adapter!!! Woo hoo I can finally ride again!

I think I have to pledge my new found allegiance to Montrose Bike Shop. I had the part on order at another (not to be named here) bike shop in the area that completely dropped the ball.

Talked to the Montrose guys a week or 2 ago when i began my search and they ordered the part without me even asking them to, I assume because they figured others besides myself would need it too. Having waited and waited for the other shop to call me and let me know the status of my order I called the Montrose shop today to see if they would order it for me and they already had it in the shop.

Anyway, if you are in the area and need some friendly help i recommend these guys! Here's to good bike shops and the nice guys working there!
