Default 07 Turner RFX build

Hey everyone,

Just ordered an 07 RFX from Turner that just went to powder coat and should be delivered sometime next week.

I'm looking for some advice on a front fork that would be ideal for this frameset.

I would like to keep it on the light side if possible mostly because I'm such a crumby climber but will take a weight penalty any day for performance.

Any ideas or advice are truly appreciated.

thanks

Mott

given your comments, there are tons of choices. like frames amongst top competitors, no OBVIOUS "best". Here is what I consider a reasonable list for consideration/research. Questions on any specific one can probably be addressed by one of more of your biking buds on this site.

Here are the ones I would put out there for consideration for an RFX given the optimal AC measurements/travel range. I dont think highly of Manitou so not mentioned but to each their own.

Adjustable Air
* Fox Talas 36
* Rockshox Lyrik 2-step
* Magura Wotan
* Marz 55 ATA (66 heavier so sounds like a no go for u)

Adjustable Coil
* 55 ATA (1 side coil anyway)
* Rockshox Lyrik U-turn

Non adjustable
* Fox 36 Float (air)
* Fox 36 Vanilla (coil)
* Rockshox Lyrik Solo (air)

Depending on your preference, perhaps even some of the AM series Marz forks might work (w/ 20 mm axle).

All are great forks no doubt, each with their pluses and minuses for a given person.

Don't hold your breath getting your bike next week with Interbike going on. I am putting my 2006 Z1 Light on my new frame.

I will have a 06 Marz 66 Light ETA on one. but will eventually swap it out for either the new Marz 55ATA SL for a RS Lyric.

Dean... I am surprised you don't have yours yet.

I'm still on the fence about Rock Shox products. I'm still hearing and seeing some problems with their forks. For a light fork that performs very well, I'd go with the Talas too. In fact I'm running it on two of my 3 mountain bikes.

That is why I almost took yours when I saw it. Being painted now. Then back to Turner...they will be at Interbike so I don't expect to see it for a couple a weeks. Would be nice to take it to Mammath...not going to happen.

I had a Talas on the Superlight when I sold it and love it. Maybe the 36 is the way to go.

You put a light fork on a Flux. If I wanted a light bike I would not be buying a RFX frame. Mine is going to be a fun build and ride the RIP when I want light.

Im riding an 08 Talas 36RC2 on my 06 RFX and could not be more pleased. Was riding an AMSL 1 and was not pleased with adjustments, the fork felt alright but the ATA was lame, IMO. The Fox is light, stiff, and easy to adjust. I love the 3 position travel adjust.

If you are comfortable with the Talas, stick with your gut and get the 2008 36 Talas. Not cheap, unless you have connections , but worth it to get what you want. My 2 cents.....

after 11mo on a Totem 2Step with no problems.... I finally got the dreaded stuck down issue bad. I was just fine tuning the air pressure for the Mammoth trip and now the damn fork will barely extend past the 135mm hash marks!
Taking it to GarageWorks tomorrow, hoping they'll know how to fix it. If not the new RFX could be making an appearance at the mountain. Or maybe just pick up the 40 at The Path

I just went with the 08 Talas on my Spot. I'm hoping it perfeorms like it is rumored to. I was on a 06 66SL which worked extremely well. I have my eye on the new 55SL ATA if the Talas doesn't impress.

The only reason you got this good response from Fo is because he has been fork shopping.

about other models but I have a Reba that has been bomb proof for three years. I mean when I am bored I check the air pressure and it is perfect.

After my Sid and Psylo experiance I said NEVER AGAIN to RS products...........I was wrong

However Manitou..............RUN AWAY!!!!!
