Default Bashrings

Okay, I want to lose my big ring and go to a rock ring setup. Are any of you guys running a 32 or have you moved on to a 34-36 tooth setup? Do the kits come with the proper bolt size?

If your just swapping the big ring for a bash ring, no special bolts are needed since typically the thickness of the bash ring is the same as a big ring...

I've got an XT crankset with bashring currently.. Also just purchased a set of Race Face cranks at The Path sale with a Path bashring. I'll put pics up when it gets on the bike.

e.13 bash guards I believe can be purchased for 32T, and then 34+.

I am running a Path Bash Ring on the RIP9. with a 32. Simply unbolted the big ring and rebolted the ring in it's place. Did not even have to take off the crank arm

I'm running a 36 up front with a bash guard. I would like to move a little higher (maybe 38 ). I can pedal up to about 37 mph, but sometimes I would like to go a little faster. Something to think about...

Running a bash guard instead of a third ring, you typically only lose the top 2-3 gears. On an 11-34 cassette, 22/32 rings and 175mm cranks--2:9 is identical to 3:7.

My 42 tooth big ring on my RIP has become a bash ring. With that low bottom bracket I now have broken off many teeth.

Unless it's the bashguard from E13 or one of the other thick guards, but those usually come with longer bolts (or at least the E13s do).

In my opinion, if you're on a FR or AM bike where you need/want a bash guard/ring, the 32 isn't enough for the downhills. I went with a 36 on my VPX, and I'm very happy with that plan. The only thing that seems strange, is that I tend to get confused. What do I mean? For example, when I'm in the 36 up front and a 34 in the back, I can't understand why it's so hard to pedal up some hills, until I remember that it's a 36 and not a 32. No big deal, but it is something I wonder now and then.
