Default Floor pump maintenance

I keep my pump in my box of tools and spare parts in my van.

I never thought about any kind of maintenance until my floor pump wouldn't pump. Of course it was at a trail head before a ride, but I did have a mini pump.

After the ride when I got home I took the pump apart and found the ''0" ring had worked it's way out of it's groove. The ''0'' ring was chewed up and the everything was dirty. I cleaned up everthing, oiled everthing and replace the ''0'' with a new one. It works better than new.

Of course, I was thinking all the time I should of taken it apart and cleaned it every once in awhile. Just simple maintenance.

Good advice. I've been using the same Blackburn pump for about 9 years. Other than replacing the head about 4 years ago, I'll I've done is tighten a few components (stem to handle and the top cap on the body). I've never checked the O-ring or seal on the piston. And I use this pump before every ride - it's been a good pump. <now getting all teary eyed>
