Drafting is fun!

Thanks for all the input from the build thread. I finally got all the parts in for my new XCL. Specs are down at the bottom. You'll see that I heeded some advice, and totally ignored others

Nice looking bike.
One you get a ride in let's hear a report on the Eskar. Thinking about those for the new spot build.

Oh damn. That's pretty damn good looking. I would like to pedal that around a bit. I am really interested in the geometry, particularly the bb height, chainstay length, and ht angle.
Don't let Nam pinch flat your tires though. Congratulations on the new rig.

I got in a very short ride today and I think I have most things just about dialed. One thing is for sure, I ride a lot faster (at least uphill and on flats) than I do on my Evo.
These tires are awesome. The Specialized Eskar tracks very well up front and measures up to a true 2.3". The Specialized Captain in the rear is very grippy. The only thing I'm concerned about is the sidewall thicknesses. They feel pretty thin to me. I'll have to see how they hold up to rocks. Reported weights (I don't have a scale) on them are good, like 710g and 580g respectively. That's pretty light for a tubeless tire. As far as the wheels go, I love them. This is actually the stiffest wheelset I have. When I build wheels, one of the things I do is push down on the rim with the hub side resting on the floor to help bed-in the spokes. This thing wouldn't give. I have 5.1d's laced up using DT Swiss Comps on another wheelset and there's definitely more flex on those. The Hayes Strokers feel a lot like Magura Martas but stronger. I think I still need a long downhill or something to bed these in. So far so good though. |

The XCL climbs great! even at 140mm it still pedals well, but dial the fork down to 95mm and its a climbing machine. Although my Chumba is a little on the chubby side, I now find myself climbing things in 1-2 breaks that used to take me 6 on my Diamondback.
![]() So are you going to set up the first ever Chumba owners only ride dubjay? ![]()
