Default UST Tire Swap

Okay, I have been running the Neve/BlueG combo for a while now with 819s/HopeII/Stans and I think its time for a change.

(I do wish Kenda would make either the Neve or BlueG in a 2.20 or 2.35 UST)

I was looking into some Panaracer or Maxxis tires and wanted to know some opinions from those of you that have run them.

Panaracer Trailraker UST

Panaracer Fire UST

Then I was also looking at some Maxxis tires.

Crossmark UST

Ignitor UST

Other UST tires I should be considering? I have been running 2.10 front and rear and think I should move up to a bit larger in the front but it seems there arent many 2.20 or 2.35 UST tires I can find? Just looking for some suggestions.

Whoa...how do you get those Panaracers rolling? Those lugs make me imagine that you're nailing your bike to the trail.

The Maxxis roll much faster, but what kind of riding are you doing and what kind of bike are you throwing them on?

Specialized has a decent amount of tubeless (2bliss) tires as well.

I've been running their Resolution (2.3) up front and it's been working well. I like it better than the Ignitor 2.35 UST that I had before, but it definitely is heavier.

BTW - How are things at Source Interlink these days? Better than PRM?

I ride a Spec Stumpy FSR and I mostly ride XC type stuff. Loop, Oneil, Aliso...

I just read through that entire UST reco thread someone else posted a week ago and got some opinions out of that. Heck I even posted in that how quickly we forget. I guess I felt like asking myself lol. The Neve/BG has worked good just thinking of changing it up and moving to a larger front tire.

Also, I blew a hole in the BG up front and its not holding air very well. Then again since I got the new wheels these tires havent held air very well.

Dang those Panaracer's look insane! Traction galore!!! I too am looking for UST tires since I got my Hadley's built on the 819's. Jordan maybe you can enlighten me with tire recommendations?

i'm not sure about the panaracers, but the maxxis tires are pretty skinny... check out the Schwalbe Nobby nic 2.25 tubeless, they're not cheap but schwalbe tires rock. They also make a tubeless 2.35 Fat Albert tire. Expect to pay around $60 per tire and most likely a little less at your friendly LBS

Right on man next comes your new frame

Honestly, I have enjoyed the Nevegal 2.1 and Blue Groove 2.1 combo I have been running but they just dont seem to want to hold full air pressure. The traction is great on loose and hard packed terrain and even through water in Oneil. I would probably stick with them if they made a larger than 2.1 size UST tire. I want to run something larger in the front for my next set. When I figure out what I am going to go with next I will keep you informed. Right now the Ignitors are high on my list to try.

yup, but UST maxxis is still like $55 each i believe Neil runs ignitor/larsen tt combo, what i would also run as well keep in mind that maxxis tires run skinny and a 2.35 will be more like an average 2.1.. i have read that schwalbe is coming out with a tubeless Big Betty soon, so that would be a freakin sweet tire at 2.4

I got a used 2.35 Ignitor UST sitting in my garage if any of you guys want to try it. It's only got about 15-20% left on it, but still should hold air

I roll dual Ignitor 2.1's on my SS and love them. They grip really well and roll really well too. Of course, being it's on my SS I wanted a low rolling resistance.

Grip is good for a 2.1. I would imagine the 2.35's would be better.

i think anything bigger than 1.9 up front for me would be a step up in grip

Would you say you have had better 2.1's though? What else have you had on that bike to compare them to?

Just saw something about another Specialized tire..2.3" width and 760g!

It seems Lee likes it...

Specialized says you need them if you have 150mm of travel

The Ignitor's are the only tires I have ever had on my SS. I've ridden Panaracer Fire 2.1's, Ritchey Z-Maxx 2.1's, Specialized Roll-X 2.1's, WTB WeirWolf 2.1's and a few others I can't think of now.

The grip on Ritchey's was/is the best IMO. The grip on the Ignitor's is just as good if not better than the others.

I roll 2.35's or bigger on my other bikes.

i also roll dual igniters, 2.35 though. they roll great and if they slip when leaning into turns they are predictable and will bite again if you sit up.

when i get my dt swiss conversion kit, i will keep the ignitors as my tires of choice. when i had my coiler, rob and i converted my wheels and i found the maxxis minion dh to hold air MUCH better than my kenda bluegroove i had up front.
