I would want to see a page on how to fix an ovalised headtube and salvage 2 crossmax wheels. Maybe a section on how to see in the dark or time travel as well.

All the ideas sound great and helpful. About the only thing I could (would) add would be a bike tear down and replacement.
People talk about headset presses, how about pulling your old one off first and trying to get the fork crown race? off w/out ruining it.

Top items: IMO
Brake setup/maintenance (disc and v-brakes)
Drlr adjustments
Cleaning/lubing
Wheel truing

Go to it and good luck!

George, you must be a man of patience.

Every time I think about doing a picture tutorial or something during one of my builds, the plans usually get thrown out since I'm in such a hurry to get the bike built and getting it out on the trails.

Talking Public library

I would be crazy stoked to see some kind of library of recommended settings on suspension and tires pressures.

E.g. A good base setting on "x" fork is this. If you are riding on a trail with heavy, rough down hill runs try this setting, like fork preload, rebound and sag height.

And Tire pressures, E.g. we have found that our kenda nevgals like a psi around 35-39 on rough single track, the rider weighs 180.

You could augment this with a community input system. Let us tell each other what we like to ride, how we ride it and on what components. That way if, lets say a south oc local gets a magic trip to Whistler, they has some idea of how their bike should be set up to deal with a type of riding he (or she) has never seen. I mean, with the amount of bikes we all won, we should have pretty much EVERY base covered!

How about road/trail side repairs. Things that you can do if you bust something on the trail. Like we did with Lynn's bike when she busted her derailers...we just made it an SS. Things you can do to help with busted breaks or shifters...etc. That's when a wrencher really comes in handy.

I don't know about other girls but I really like wrenching...so I can't wait for the site to get up.

Great idea George and Rob. Video definitely makes it easier to understand.

I'd like to see good video on front and rear dérailleur set up and adjustment. Same for brake set up and adjustment.

I like the ideas about regular maintenance on such things as forks and shocks.

You might be able to get a variety of videos and bike styles by collaborating with the local manufacturers or teams. Perhaps you can show how different bikes are built and/or maintained by different team wrenches or OEM manufacturers.

Default Wheels

Did somone mention wheel maintenance/repair? That's just about the only thing that I can't do on a bike.

If you guys could also build a wheel from the ground up, that'd be sweet!!

George,

This is a really good idea. To expound a little, we have some great wrenches at our local shops. They are seeing the type of stuff you want to cover on a daily/weekly basis.

Maybe you could work something out where you can video them doing the repair you're covering, in exchange for a little couple second frame with their shop logo and contact info at the begining and end of the segment.

To take it a step farther and perhaps more back to what BrewMaster was going after, have the local MFGs asssist you in providing vids on how to service brand/model specific aspects of the bike. Like how Turner goes into good detail on their site with the bushing replacement etc. It's easy to pitch to them as it gives them a vehicle to serve their customer base with little to no investment in infrastructure.

I deffinitely agree with the others that a "trail side ghetto rig" section is needed. I've been out on a couple of rides where some "non-standard" fixes had to be implemented.

I think I am going to need my own Tech Forum when this site goes live.... This one works everytime!

I got a flat in aliso last weekend at the bottom of cholla. I was baking in the sun and just sat there for a minute. I was so damn hot and I was worked from riding Carbon Canyon in the morning. I kept aksing myself, what was I thinking doing a double hitter inj the heat. Anyway, a couple of Flatbillers (the guy was wearing a skin shirt with so he can show his tats) with their girlfriends rolled up and asked if I needed help and I said I had no clue how to fix a flat on this thing ( my single speed 29er ). I wasn't about to change it at the moment cause it felt like a 100+ out and I was on my second ride of the day. Sure enough, ego and all they got all dirty and changed my tube out... all why I talked to the chicks. What was really funny is that they asked me what the little canister was on my bike, I straight faced told him its compressed air to fix flats... then turned and continued to talk to Kelly (who works just down the street from me and said she would come by and do lunch) and some other girl. I love Aliso.

I figure I was getting payback for all those gloves I ruined when helping people fix their bike, especially dropped and broken chains. What goes around, comes around... right!
