So I noticed that i was developing some little tiny pin holes in my tires. So i decided to hit The Path and pick up a bottle of Stan's. Thought, no biggie easy peasy, pour in the requisite amount into the tire and pump the tire back up.
Right. For the next 20 minutes, I was pumping feverishly to get the bead to seat properly to hold air. It was absolutely comedy, i can only imagine what my neighbors where thinking as i was pumping the hell out of the tire not knowing that it's a tubeless tire. LOL An air compressor would have made quick work out of this task. But i finally got the tire to seat and instantly noticed the white liquid seeping through the 4 or so pin holes in my tire. Hats off to this product! Anyone have tips for reseating the bead on UST tires? Is there some trick that I dont know about?

I went through the same deal when I built my SS. I decided to go UST rims and tires with a bit of Stan's for good measure. After 10-15 minutes of futility, I gave up and got a Schrader adapter from my LBS the next day so I could use my air compressor.

The compressor works really well. But, if you are just re-filling Stan's into your setup then just take out the needle. It should screw out. fill-in with amount of stan's, replace needle and fill it back up with air. This way you don't have to break the bead. (Not sure if this is what you did in the first place?)
I know what you went through. I just did that song and dance a few days ago. It's not fun, it's gotta look even funnier to watch and can work up a good sweat in no time. I forgot about the whole needle thing.

If you soap the heck out of the beads, it acts like a seal to help get the beads to seat.

Hey Foo,
Yeah, what Ben said, if you soap up the bead real good, it'll help seat the tire. The first time I did this, it was pretty easy. I hung the wheel off my bike stand. Soaped up the bead, added Stans, soaped up the bead and start pumping. The tire came right up. The second tire, I had to smack around to get it to seat. Note, this only works on new tires. Once the tire has stretched, it's virtually impossible to reseat with a floor pump. You might as well get a schrader adapter and use an air compressor. I don't have a air compressor so I get everything set first then drive down to the gas station and fill it up. I bring a small cup of soapy water and brush with me. Oh yeah, soapy water makes getting the bead over the rim quite easy. |

well lesson learned for the front tire...i'm either A) going to pull the needle and fill it that way or B) get a nice compressor to pump enough air to make that puppy seat...just like mounting tires on a dam car hehe

Also, unless I'm mistaken, Mavic valve stems don't have a removeable core. Step one: Buy Stan's valve stems. Step two: buy an air compressor. It's very rare that I can seat a tire with a floor pump.
If you watch the video on the Stan's website and follow it precisely you shouldn't have any problems. C

that's really good to know about the stems! i think i actually bought some on Tani's advice the other day when i accidentally bent my needle w/ a portable hand pump.

Listen to bjammin. This really does help the bead to seat. Also, if you don't have access to an air compressor, here's what I've found works: If you have the stem pointed upwards (meaning it is closest to the ground it can get), the air pressure going into the tire will actually push the Stan's towards the bead, and help to seat the bead. |

i'm looking to get the dt swiss kit soon for my ex 5.1d's, but i will use the stans juice instead of the stuff dt provides. most of the bubbs i know havent had much success with the dt juice.
when not using turnerob's compressor, the compressor at the arco station by my pad comes in handy.

This is good to know. Now, when I upgrade to tubeless I won't have to go through the frustration of trying to seat the bead with a floor pump.
