Default Quick Shimano Brake Lever question

On the Shimano multifunction (Shift/Brake) setups, the master cylinder looks the same as the rest of the Shimano master cyilnders. If that's the case, could one just pull off the shift pod and bolt on an aftermarket lever like a dangerboy etc?

Thanks,
Chris

You mentioned shift/brake and master cylinder. That means you're talking about the hydraulic Shimano dual control setups. If that's the case, then no...you cannot change out to your own lever.

The rapid fire systems, on the other hand, are separate units from the brake levers and you can use practically any lever you want.

If you have Shimano hydraulic calipers, I'm not sure if the fittings would work with a non-Shimano lever.

actually ... i think i know what you are talking about.

yes you could use any other SHIMANO hydraulic lever/master cylinder you wanted.

you could then use a dangerboy or straightline LEVER BLADE.

i don't know about using different clamps... that was from the old days of mechanical brakes and rapid fire shifters... don't play with antiques!

if you are trying to reuse some part of the BRIFTERS, you cannot. it is one stupid unit.

Yeah,

I could score some 575s with the "brifter" master cylinder/shifter setup on da cheap. Definitely a goofbal setup, but I wasn't interested in keeping the shifter aspect of things. Seems dumb that they'd have made it in the first place, let alone mfg a new MC housing for it. I was hoping they were using the same MC casting, and I could just toss a new lever blade in there in place of the shiftamajigger. But I'll just pass on that deal and dump more $$ into my nines.

Thanks,
Chris
