Default Kenda Nevegal tire pressures?

Just put a set of DTC 2.1s (tube) on my Trance and went for a ride yesterday. They seemed kind of sketchy in the softer spots--didn't inspire much confidence at all. I was curious what kind of pressures you guys run with these tires? I'm running them pretty low right now. 30 rear, 32 front. I'm ~150lbs all geared up. I could try dropping the pressure in the front even more I guess... any suggestions?

Yeah I would drop your front pressure down. Usually you will want to run lower pressure in the front tire. At your weight you can probably get away with running around 26-28psi in your front tire depending on how aggressive you ride. I wouldn't drop your rear down any lower than 30 or you'll be asking for pinch flats using tubes. I've found the Kenda Blue Groove seems to work better as a front tire for me, the Nevegal seems to wander a bit more in the front compared to the BG.

Thanks. I actually typed up my pressures backwards--I was running the lower pressure in front. I dropped it down to ~26 and things seem better. Thanks for the advice.

One last question--the front tire seems to have a wobble to it. It looks like one small portion of the tire is a bit deformed or just not true. When I spin it, you can see where it moved in a bit in one spot. The rear tire is perfectly true. Is this normal, or is something else going on?

Check to make sure the bead seated correctly. If everything else is good, it may just be a slightly deformed tire.

I had a Nevegal that was that way once. I knew the bead was good and took it into my LBS to have the mechanic check the wheel and the bead. The wheel was true and the bead was seated just fine. He took it off and put it back on 3 times and the wobble was always there in the same part of the tire. We grabbed a new one off the shelf and installed it and it didn't wobble at all. As far as I know, they sent the wobbling one back to Kenda.

I run the Nevegals too, and I know you have to run them up to full pressure, or even a little higher and let them sit in the sun for a bit to get them round and seated properly. It does sound like you had a bad one though. Cheers!

any 2.1 tire isn't going to inspire too much confidence in the soft/loose/sandy stuff in my opinion. if i were you i would put a 2.35 nev up front. that will allow for a bigger contact patch and you would experience a more positive and predictable line through the sloppy stuff and the chunky stuff as well.

That's what I'm thinking it is. It isn't a very large deformation, but noticeable when you're looking down

I'll give this a shot

Cool. Thanks for the suggestion...dunno if I can justify more bucks on tires right now, but I'll try this on the next round.
