Default UST tire recommendation for the OC area trails

I'm looking to replace my specialized xc ust tire and think w/ the new epi that i'm getting soon the tires might not be a good match. any recommendation for tires?

I am running UST Kenda Blue Groove 2.1 and Kenda Nevegal 2.1 in the rear and love the ride. The only problem is for some reason they dont want to hold more than 30psi for long. I can fill them to 35psi and run them for a few days fine but they eventually drop down to around 28 or so but never much lower or flat.

Use the Specialized tires you have now before you jump ship. They may work fine. Which ones are they?

I use the Specialized Fast Trak LK Pros on Mavic CrossMax SLRs and I'm thoroughly satisfied. They roll fast and I've never had a traction issue.

For my next set, I want to try the Specialized Fast Trak SLKs. Even as my LKs wore down, traction was still good.

If I were to change brands, I'd look into the Maxxis CrossMark USTs (if you like a wide 2.1 tire) or the Maxxis Ignitor USTs.

Whatever you choose, just remember that the tires are generally matched to the terrain you ride on rather than the bike. After that, it boils down to preference.

Good luck.

Kendas don't seem to do well tubeless, not sure why. The guys at Jenson in Corona keep urging me to go tubeless and each time they say I can use almost any tire I want except Kendas.

I believe he is talking about a true UST tire, not a Stans conversion....correct? If so I just got a Maxxis Ignitor on the front of my 5 Spot and am really liking it so far. My Kenda SB8 doesn't hold air well at all, but is a very good/fast rolling tire for the rear.

Another vote for the Maxxis Ignitors. I'm running them on my SS. 2.1 in the rear and 2.35 in the front. I'm really liking them so far.

Thanks. Ya, I'm pretty in love with it myself actually. I only wish I had the skills to ride it everywhere.

My current set up is a Specialized Resolution 2.3 UST up front and a Maxxis Ignitor 2.35 UST in the rear.

The Resolution holds the lines in the loose stuff so much better than the Ignitor. Another bonus is that it's a true 2.3" tire. The Resolution casing width measured in at about 60mm, while the Ignitor came in at only 53mm.

well, i've put some miles on my new ride and the Specialized 1.9 that i had on my previous ride. I think it's too skinny and when i'm going though some loose sections it's kind of gives me a sketchy feel to it. Friend suggested i go 2.1 or so up front and keep the 1.9 in the rear. not sure what to do. the 1.9's are light and great for xc but not sure if it's good for trail riding.
