Default SS Upgrade

After riding the RIP today in Bommer Canyon I realized that I am diggin the SS thing a bit more than the Sussser right now. So off to The Path I go to put the ONE9 back together ( I had BB problems that led to crank problems which somehow led to a Forking problem.

So I called on my friends

Phil

Paul

And they help me Pace my Forking problem

resulting in a minor overhaul that rides like a new bike

I am not sure that I am going to Fawnskin tomorrow as I think I want to stay local and play with my new toys...

Lower San Juan SS to Cocktail??

Nice cranks. I was looking at those but 180 was just a bit to long for me. Still waiting on a couple of parts to come in. Hopefully my One9 will be built this week.

You had to go and steal my upgrade thunder, eh?? Just kidding. That is very nice indeed.

But enough about the bikes, I'm diggin' that retro leather golf bag there in the background of the third pic

We should be careful or pretty soon the SS's will be too pretty to ride.

Are you referring to Jeff's Niner above or my Fetish Fixation from my post?

Phil Wood makes hubs, cogs, spokes and bottom brackets for road, wheelchair, track and mountain. He designed his own bearings and his parts last than most bikes do.

Phil Wood

I know the trend has been going away from square taper BB/cranks. So the square taper BB/crank from Phil Wood is the exception to that rule?

The trend is going away from square taper when dealing with the masses... SRAM/Shimano... What I can telll you is that when I compare the workmanship involved with the Phil /Paul combo compared to the Truvative Stylo Team previously used and balance that with the fact that my BB on my ONE9 no longer creaks and the cranks spin with less drag my vote is simple... Take a look at the BB and compare it to die cut piece of plastic with a bearing on either end. (truvative).... Not to mention that I actually ran Phil Wood hubs on my Powerlite 24" BMX cruiser many years ago and I think that is pretty cool that smaller companies are able to stand the test of time. Kinda cool to still see this stuff around.

The thought expressed above are simply my opinion and are NOT a reqest to flamed with Shimano Scientific testing reports or the like...

I have been using Phil Wood Stainless Steel Bottom Brackets and square taper cranks on all my bikes for a couple of years now. Bullit proof no hassel setup.

Jeff, no picture of that satellite dish you call a rear cog?
