Default ShoCk HeLP

hey guys
i have a gignt dh team and the rear shock is a re built manipoo swinger 3 way without the resevoir

heres my problem.... i dont wy mcuh so with 40 pounds of pressure it should be stiff for me... but it seems hucking only curbs it bottoms out and the rebound is sticky... and since i dont have the money right now i kinda have to make do with this shock until i can afford a real shock like the fox 5.0
any ideas to make it work better? thanks!

ohhh didnt even think of that
the bad thing about this shock is i cant read crap on it cuz the print is little and with all the dirt and water marks on it.... thanks though illl try that
i just went out and pumped 100psi into it and no help
i think when i unscrew my shock to get it off it leaks out air
do you know how to make it so when i unscrew it the air wont leak out?

that's air coming out of the pump, not the shock it self.
i had one of those swingers, and i liked it on my xc bike. not sure about dh use... if i remember, i used about 20 lb less of air in the spv then in the main chamber. that shock is pretty adjustable with the two different air chambers. took me a while to get the set up right for my use. take a pump with you on a few rides and you'll be able to work it out.

brandon, it will be cheapest to take your shock, measure eye to eye (with sag) and just go get a solid 1" cro-mo tube cut with holes in each end, solid mount that biatch. lol.

Seee guys whats weird is i just realized most of the 3 ways are the ones with the resevoir
i think its the rebuilt one and i read the outside of the shock and it says manipoo swinger 3 way adjustable
i ppmped 100 psi into with anopther shock that let no air out and it still didnt work right
i have no idea what the problem is
i think its time to save for a new shock time

My advice is just trial and error the air pressure until you get it how you like it. You'll probably need more air in it than you think.

My Reign came with a 3-Way and I hated that thing. It always leaked air and was generally way too plush on an already plush bike. I got a good deal on a Float and love it now.

If you can find the documentation online, I'd take a look at that first and foremost. Outside of that, make sure you're not confusing the schrader valve for the air spring with the schrader for the SPV. That shock seems to have a love/hate record. Some people can't curse it enough and wouldn't use it as a paperweight, while others have actually used that shock as an upgrade and are nothing but happy with it. If you can go without riding for a while, it seems that you could probably sell it on good ol' Ebay for a fair amount, then buy something a little different/better by adding a little money to the equation. If the thing is that bad, you might be better off with somethin simple like a Vanilla etc. If you know the stroke and eye to eye measurement for the shock, there might be some stuff laying around that someone would unload cheap.

Good luck.

That's good advice. I got the Float for my Reign for $120 brand new off Ebay.

Even if you had zero pressure in the chamber, it still shouldn't come close to bottoming out. Sounds like you have too soft a spring. What is the spring weight you have on that shock and how much do you weigh?

Another thing, get your weight, divide it by half, and put that amount of air pressure in the chamber. If I remember right, this should be your starting point, using no less than 50psi. Detach the shock pump, wait about 15-30 minutes, then re-attach it. I find it normal to lose about 5-10 psi from when you detach the pump. If you're losing a lot more than that, you likely have a leak in the shock.

Check out these guides, I believe the second might be what you are looking for. Make sure you set up your bikes SAG correctly. I have a 3 way on a Reign & I like it, in fact it's my second 3 way on a bike & I prefer it over some of the Fox shocks I have had in the past (Flame on!) I do hate Manitou forks! You can use a zip tie around the shock if you are missing the ring to gauge the SAG. I find I lose about 7 to 10 psi when removing the pump from the chamber, so I add that on to the target psi. Just hook up the pump to gauge what you lost. The hissing comes mainly fgrom the pump. But Manitou does has a rep for weak valves. I weigh about 195 with gear I run 200 psi in the top chamber & 50 to 75 in the bottom depending on how plush I want the ride. You wont need to reset the pistons for this!
