Default Seat Squeek

how in the world do you get rid of seat squeek??? I bought my bike not too long ago and it seems like the seat squeeks especially as i pump up hills.

I have applied some lithium greese on the bars underneath the seat and it helps but then starts up again. I have not washed the bike with soap...

The seat is an MTB that came with the bike... any suggestions before I throw it off the cliff???

thanks!!

Try lightly greasing the seat post and see if that does the trick. If not, maybe the noise isn't the seat at all. If you stand and pedal, does your bike still squeak? If so, maybe the noise is coming from the bottom bracket. You might have to tighten it.

Check where the rails go into the actual seat. The interface may have come a little loose. When that happens, it usually means it's time for a new seat. In the meanwhile, you can try shooting some type of lube into there and see if it goes away temporarily at least.

my rails squeak too. it comes from the clamp/rail interface. greasing it is the only thing that helps, but that doesn't last forever. i just live with it till i can't any longer and then re-grease.

Pull the seatpost out and take everything apart. Clean everything well. Apply grease to every part when you put it all back together. This should take care of the problem.

cut an old inner tube apart and put thin strips between the rails and the clamp.

the last two are good the first being the one to do first. it could be cable housing/ferrules in the frame.
