What are yer favorite tubeless configurations? I'm running Mavic Crosslands which are old & heavy (2000g+) but I haven't flatted in 2 yrs! The tubeless thing may weigh more but the absence of flats totally makes up for it. I wanna make my wife's bike tubeless but the cost for new stuff is scaring me. Cut 24" tubes & Stans's? Who's got the trickness?

So far so good running Blue Groove and Nevegal Tubless with Stans. I have to say I am pretty happy with the tubeless because I was always a flat happy person and so far Im good (hope thats not a jinx).

I'm all over the UST setup with my 819's.
For the past year I've been running Maxis HighRoller UST 2.35. Those are badass tires, just not the fastest. I would love to run Kenda's but the UST only come in 2.1. I ran the 2.1 UST Nevagal for a while but thing wore super fast. I actually just bought a Maxis Ranchero 2.1 UST. Its sopposed to be a more XC lighter version of the HighRoller. I am going to run it in the back. Has anyone ran this tire before?

I just switched to 819 rims, and am using a 2.1 UST Nobby Nic in the back and a 2.25 UST Nobby Nic in the front. I only have about 50 miles on the tires so far, all of which were in Yreka, CA, but the dirt is similar enough to SoCal that I can say they should do fine here. They seem like very good tires.

An additional problem with this setup is that the thin sidewalls can still be "pinched cut" just as easily if not more easily than pinchflatting a tube. Also, due to a lack of protection, the rim is more prone to damage. Unless you're running thick sidewalled DH tires or UST specific tires, don't go UST. There's plenty of reading on this topic in the wheel/tires forum at mtbr.

I am running what the Path recommended but I cannot remember off the top of my head if they are UST or not but I am pretty sure I recall the writing on my receipt saying UST.

Kenda does have UST tires in a 2.1, but not the 2.35 yet...as far as I know. The Kenda UST tires are a good call.

I'm currently running Hutchinson Barracuda UST Tubeless Light (26 X 2.1, 695 grams) front and back and am generally happy except the rear tire has burped a couple of times in the last few weeks (the last time on Rattlesnake...could have had calamitous consequences but I managed to stop before crashing/ruining my rim!).
I think the burping might just be that I'm not seating the tire correctly and not a problem with the tire itself. I previously ran Hutchinson Octopus tires without a single problem and they are essentially the same tire with an identical tread profile as the Barracudas but in a larger, heavier format. I have also used WTB VelociRaptors (front and rear specific) with Stan's. These tires handled very well in rocky, loose conditions but because they are not tubeless, I had to keep topping up the air every couple of days or so. Hopefully, they will eventually release a tubeless version of these tires ![]()

I ride nothing but tubless, both my FXR's are running 819's with 2.1 and 2.35 maxxis high rollers, my fly is running dee max rims and 2.5 minion's and my mono is running 2.5 minion and a 2.7 in front with stans... maxxis doesn't make a 2.7 ust....I really like it on the Dh bikes, i can run like 20 psi

Nam, The Fat Albert is a really good tire, although expensive and twice I tore the knobs off with one resulting in immediate tire failure. Dean gave me a Weirwolf out in Utah that I've been running since then and though maybe not as nice as the Albert, it costs one third the price. Another you may consider for the front is the Big Betty, very light and a BIG footprint. My all time favorite so far is the tire I bought up in Mammoth which is the Specialized "Chunder",2.5 number one tire at Mammoth and Whistler but works amazingly well everywhere I've rode it. It's a little heavy but the trade off is well worth it. I've put this on a real skinny rim from American Classic and with the Stans I haven't had a single problem in about a year. Very, very, happy with this set up.

Doesn't make any difference you can still run tubeless with Stans weather a tire is UST or not.
