Or Not Enough

I few weeks ago, I was bidding on an 05 Specialized Hardrock SS (the one with horizontal dropouts) and it went all the way up to $450 or something insane. I think it only cost around $500 brand new. Anyway, I heard from the seller--high bidder had backed out and he needed to sell the bike within the next few days because he was headed out on a bike tour. I ended up meeting him and I paid $220 for the bike! Can't wait to try it out. I have my Bianchi SISS, but being a fatty, I've heard bad things about chainstay durability on that frame. The Hardrock looks like it can be thrown around, and it was really inexpensive anyway. Should be fun! I don't want to get upgrade-itis, but I'm looking at getting a Mary bar and maybe a set of J5's to replace these mediocre Tektro mechanical disks.

The Oakleys are pretty hip!
For some reason, I have no pictures of me riding a bike anywhere. Every time I go on club rides, there's nobody there with a camera. Or maybe they just don't want to take pics. I tried out the singlespeed on the road a couple of times today. Until I get much stronger, the 32/16 is NOT gonna work on any type of climb. I'll have to switch it over to something like a 20 or so. |

I brought the SS out to Lower Arroyo last week and found that it was really okay, as long as I committed myself to standing on the (not steep) climbs.
I also got rid of the scary Tektro brakes and replaced them with a cheap set of BB5's, and installed a Minute 2:00 that I had lying around. Should be fun to try out again! ![]() I'm also awaiting the OnOne Mary that I won from an eBay auction. The stock headset is junk too, so eventually I'll want to replace that. Man, I only paid $220 for the bike, but I'm starting to get hit in the wallet with all these upgrades! |
