How do you take of the chain rings on a XT crank? trying to covert it so i be SS on my 29er. i got the small ring off, just i have no idea how to remove the other two. I see four screws but if i try to unscrew them they just turn cuz i don't have anything to hold the nut on the other side. anyone have advice? what tool am i missing? lol

You are missing a cone wrench to hold the nuts. They are flat and flimsy looking and available at an LBS near you.

I think 15mm but I don't have an XT set that I can measure. try asking the guys at the shop or just take the whole crankset with you.

Default This is what you need!

If You Dont Have This Wrench A Large Screwdriver Will Work Also, Or A Butter Knife. A Hot Latina And A Lowrider Is Also Helpful But Not Needed.

Yeah. I told him cone wrench because a cone wrench will be useful in the future whereas a crecent won't. I am assuming that the blots are not stripped by the way

yo Andy, you should have mentioned you were setting it up SS... I have a new tensioner I could have made part of the deal.

Anyway, you should know that I ran that bike SS for awhile, with NO tensioner... used the magic ratio 32:21 and it worked perfectly.
