So i was fixing a flat rear tire today and noticed some play in the rear hub. Is this something i can fix or does it have to be replaced. Its an XT hub. An example of the play is when the skewers are tight the wheel can rub the rear triangle shifting side to side. Further, while riding on the street around the house when i lean on a turn the brake rotor rubs along with the tire.
Does the hub need to be replaced or can something be tightned?

Try removing the wheel and tighten the nuts on either side of the hub. The funny looking ones with 2 flat sides. You may need one or more cone wrenches (funny looking flat wrenches that look flimsy)
You may be in luck. Shimano doesn't use cartrige bearings so if a bearing is blown it can be replaced. |
