I'm picking up a roof rack for my car finally. Though i'm getting the Yakima rack (only company that makes one for the tC) thule attachments will also fit. Just wondering what were your opinions on the two companies. I'm either getting the Yakima King Cobra or the Thule Sidearm. Picking up tomorrow so let me know what you think.
Thanks, Andy |

I like them both, but if I had a preferance I think I'd go with the Yakima.

both are solid. I went with the Sidearms only cuz that was what was available at the time from where I purchased them. having said that you should check them both out if you haven't done so already. The sidearms are setup out of the box to run in a certain orientation on your roof [and for the life of me can't remember that] in order to switch the around you've got disassemble/re-assemble a bit. Not a big deal really just a few extra minutes you've got to spend setting it up. the Yak seems to not have this issue... but don't know for sure.

go with the sidearm, i had a king cobra previously and the base broke right where it attaches to the bike tray. According to reviews on mtbr, it is a common occurance. That being the said, the sidearm is built very well and holds my 36-37 lb bike without a problem.

I was told go with Yakima because they are west coast based and Thule is east coast so if you order anything direct, you will get it faster....
I dont know if this is a valid reason..... just something I heard

Rack n Road on Harbor in Costa Mesa... I got a Thule Rack and Feet, with the Rocket Bike Racks from Yakima... and the Thule Fairing... the Thule Tubes are coated... and Square. the Yakima are just painted, and will rust. yes they all have a warranty... but I personally would rather not have to deal with it...
I drive the main divide with 4 Bikes on the Roof, when I shuttle with my kids.. and the Fork Mounts are the Strongest... paid over $700 though! 4 bikes, 1 tire, and a fairing. Love it though!! well worth it!

"un-officially" Officially work at the Sport Chalet in Torrance where we sell both companies. Both of them work well. But Top mounted with a pretty heavy bike go with the Yakima. It just feels a little better. But if you lioke come in and check 'em out. I'm there like everyday and we don't work on commission so you'll get an honest opinion from anyone that works there. But Thule is having a pretty good sale during the "Thule Days" and that special is dealer-wide.
