Bikes don't kill bunnies

Default crankset weights and strengths

I'm in the mood to trim a little weight off my Vagrant and think I might be able to make a decent dent with a different crankset.

Right now I'm running a set of Profile knockoffs with a solid CroMo spindle/FSA spider/E13bash/Blackspire and RaceFace 32/22 aluminum rings. I weigh around 250 and I bought this setup because I ran something similar on my old BMX bikes and felt confident that it would be strong enough. It fills the strength bill, but I have a feeling it might be a little overkill

Does anyone have an idea on how much added weight I'm carrying around compared to a set of hussefelts, Holzfellers or FSA or Raceface's similar offerings?

Would I be bummed if I swapped for the weight savings only to find that the cranks listed are really flexy?

Thanks,
Chris

Default crank upgrade

Get profile race cranks with ti bb, superlite and strong and stiff.

Gabe,

Deffinitely a solid suggestion, but a little out of the budget at the moment. Is the weight savings of the Ti spindle by itself something worthwhile? My thought was that lighter arms would "feel lighter" even if there wasn't that big of an overall weight savings because the crank arms are rotational weight. I'm running either DK chopsticks or FSA nasty boys (can't remember which and there aren't any labels) but I was assuming that a set of holzfellers or hussefelts might be lighter and strong enough to keep me happy. If not, I'll just shut up and ride what I've got

yeah, I can't remember the numbers but the weight savings was pretty big. So was the price at the time so I've got the cromo too.

Bring those crank arms on over. I'll lighten them up.

Thanks for the offer Dave, but I don't want em whistling with every pedal stroke

at the weight you listed id not use the earlier advice of a ti bottom bracket and no im not being a dikc.ti does have a tentancy to break with the wrong applications.

Default Ti bb on profiles?

The ti spindle still has a lifetime guarantee, but the truvatives aren't half bad for the price.

Dirt,

Thanks for bringing that back to my attention. Especially being on a hardtail under my fat ass, the bb sees some stress. I didn't take it as you being a dick at all. Getting a free replacement spindle would be a crappy consolation prize for re-injuring my ankle or suffering another injury if the spindle let go.

When I built the bike I didn't care one iota about weight. Now that I've been pedaling around a bit I thought I might go over my options to reduce a little weight on the cheap. Obviously I can loose the weight off my gut faster and cheaper than off the bike, but I was curious as to how much weight difference between the two different types of setups.
