EBB's are designed to handle a 4 tooth range but the range has to end somewhere. You'll have to add a link to your chain.

I use KMC 1/8" chains, having broken shimano, sram even 1/8". Been buying KMC from Nashbar at $5.95, ordering a bunch to save on shipping.

Not all SS bikes have horizontal drops. (Imagine trying to use disc brakes).

Not sure about that. I run Juicy 7's on my Monocog without any trouble. I also ran Avid mechanicals on my Chameleon without too much trouble. I had to be somewhat selective with the gear choice, but otherwise it is was not an issue.
