Default dh rear cassettes

I saw a guy with rear road cassettes on his downhill bike, what would be the advantage of this?

higher gear ratios get you to accelerate faster.

It's not for higher gear ratios, since the smallest gear (and highest ratio) for road and mtb cassettes is 11 teeth.

The true advantage is closer ratios. For most of a typical DH race, you don't need the highest and lowest gears, but it's nice to be able to change one gear and have only a slight change in ratio vs. a large change on a typical mtb cassette.

Plus when your bombing down a hill, what do you need a 34t cog for anyways?? Also I think its so you can run a short cage or even a road derailer in the rear for better clearance, less chain slap, and tighter shifting... correct me if I'm wrong

By the way, if I go out there on Saturday for practice day, I may need someone to drive my truck home...

Sound familiar?

since peeps are going to smaller rings in the front you cant use the MTB big cogs in the rear,so the road cogs werk better for the gearing and clearance.and what they sed abuv.hope that helps.
