[quote=2wheel_lee;46651]Glad they got someone in there to manage the store. Isn't Dan the owner? Several years ago, I ordered some parts, and I got the runaround for months. Later, I had them build up a set of wheels, and it was the worst wheel build I've ever seen. I've been back a couple times, and the guys were really helpful, so it's glad to see there has been some change.
Actually Jim is still the owner and we are located at Palmyra and Tustin, Just south of Chapman Ave. We are right by the Fowler Gun Room so we get all our shooting and biking needs out of the way !Hey TK, you need to come on our shop saturday morning rides at Santiago sometime. I promise you won't be dissapointed!

1x1clyde,
Sorry, I couldn't remember the name. Yup, that's the location I remember. Did you guys open up another shop across from Supergo in Fountain Valley a while ago? I haven't been there, but I vaguely remember seeing the sign. Since you have all the necessities nearby (gun store), I assume there's a liquour store nearby? Hmm...They have a Bikes [then] Beers ride, how about a Bikes, Guns, AND Beer ride? I would say I'm game for that, but I think that would be a bad choice of words. |

I know this is out of the way for you, way out, but surf city cycles in HB. And I know alot of you are devoted Path customers but this is a great store. Shaun who managed the old supergo (now performance what a stupid move) is now the owner and is a genuinely nice guy and he will take care of you. He and TJ were the only reason I shoped at Supergo and now they are both over at surf city. Eric over there is a great wrench also.

On Saturday, I was down by the shop mentioned above in HB called Surf City Cycles, so I stopped in to check the place out. It's larger than the typical mom and pop type shop, and it looks really nice inside, especially if you like Specialized stuff. They don't really carry parts (they didn't have anything that I needed that I know The Path has), and if what you want isn't Specialized, you're probably out of luck, although they did have a few Intenses. If you want to look at all the latest cool gagdets, this is not the place to go. Just too much stuff from Specialized, and not the good stuff (though the Specialized bikes they have are really nice).
Also, I saw the former lead mechanic from Supergo there. Based on work he's done on many of my friends' bikes, he has great technical expertise at limiting a bike's suspension travel through the use of too short derailleur cables/housings, as well as being able to disregard fork manufacturers suggestions, and reverse the fluid recommendations (put the larger amount of fluid in the other side). This is also a good method of reducing travel and removing seals, btw. So I wish you luck if you take your bike there for service. If you're looking for a Specialized bike, Specialized gloves, Specialized tires, Specialized grips, Specialized tire levers, Specialized helmets, Specialized computers, Specialized socks, Specialized jerseys, Specialized shoes, Specialized seat, Specialized tools, this is a good shop. Yes, they are very specialized. |

On the same note, what shop even stocks shocks, high-end forks, any singlespeed stuff, DH stuff, Chris King stuff (other than one black headset), decent tires? That's just to name a few things that The Path carries that others don't (won't).
The expansion is quite promising for the outlook of The Path, but their crop of young, inexperienced staff will become the shop's greatest liability. |

Adrenaline Bikes(seems like they are too busy these days) and Switchback in Orange have done good tuning my bikes as well as The Bike company in Lake Forest...The new shop Banning in Fullerton did a very good job tuning a buddies bike but haven't been in myself...Never had any work done at The Path but they have had 99% of what I was looking for in stock...

Yesterday, I made plans to drop by the Path on my way home from work to get some small parts.
After talking with Pfunk at work, I decided to check out another shop mentioned in this thread 'cause they were a bit closer. I was very impressed with the shop, and they bent over backwards to help me, but ultimately they did not have what I needed (which were some pretty obscure parts, by the way). I made my way towards the Path and I was going to call them to check on the availability of the parts. Nah, I thought, they'll have 'em. Of course, they did. The Path comes through again! |

I finally found Banning's Bikes on Harbor in Fullerton, as mentioned earlier in this thread. It was hidden in plain sight. It's an attractive shop, but they really appear to only be into roadie stuff, and they really don't stock anything. Anyhow, I'll check back with them some time to see if anything has changed or improved for us mountain bikers.
