Default Front brakes on the right

Does anyone know of any hydraulic front brake kits that can be mounted (just the lever/perch/master cylinder part) on the right side of the handle bar, instead of the left?

Thanks

I might not be understanding your question but as far as I know all makes and models can be mounted on the right. Is there a particular function other than braking that you are concerned about? (i.e. bleeding the system, pad contact adjustment, etc?)

If you want to run them "moto" style, you have to manually swap the brake lines.

Perfect, that's exactly what I wanted to know.

Also, do both masters normally use the same bore and stroke? I guess even if they are different, it shouldn't be that big of a deal to swap the lines around.

Sar, MTBR said what I meant to say. I want 'moto' style brakes.

I know some pro Superbike racers and they all run the brakes on the thier mtn bikes just like all the rest of us. If they can dio it, anybody should be able to do it.

But to answer your question......Hayes and Avid allow thier levers to be mounted on either side of the bar without any modifications. Magura, Hope, Shimano require the hoses to be swapped.

Rolling on 29" dubs!

new formula barkes (the oro, VERY good reviews so far)

avid juicy (the ultimate model looks SOOO good)

hayes el camino (reviews have been hit and miss)

mech. disc bakes (like the avid bb5 and 7, the bb7 is probably one of the most popular brakes out there and you see it on $800 bikes to $4000 custom rides!)

just to name a few and answer your Q.

At work, they have a crew doing all the maintenance on the bikes, so when they get home, they are too spoiled to swap the cables on their bicycles themselves. Besides, I don't have that kind of coordination--that's why they are pros and I'm a lowly amateur.

By the way, I think I decided on the avid mechanical system.

I also ride moto (intermediate desert rider), and for some reason, I have no problem adapting between my motorycles and bicycles. However, I really get screwed up when I ride my buddy's bike that's set up moto style. I'm all confused!

The Avid system gets lots of good reviews! Good choice!

The Hot Ticket would be to run a Rekluse slipper clutch with front brake where clutch was and run rear brake to the right. I would love to run that setup on my YZ. I would rather change the motorcycle as the mtb setup is more natural for me. I suspect my dirtbiking skills would improve instantly.

Mountain biking totally screws up my moto riding. I now try to brake one-finger and forget to use the rear foot brake occasionally. I don't seem to have a problem confusing the front brake for the back on my mtb though.

W/ a "moto style" front brake set up....your back brake is going to be in your clutch location...won't that confuse you????

Stick w/ the normal set up...you'll get used to it..I rode motocross and street bikes for year before mtnbikes and there was very little adjustment needed..you learn quick after a crash or two....lol

Default moto style rules!

I got so used to riding the motorcycle that it just seemed easier. The question that a lot of people have is if you have to bleed them or not. I did not. I just switched the hoses! If you do it carefully and do not let any air in, it can work. At least it did for me. Never a problem. Good luck.

the levers are the same i believe, but if you let a bike shop werk on the bike let them no the levers are changed. dont wanna piss off the mechanics going over the bars and all.

I had coaster brakes at the time I started to ride motocross, remember the old XR-75? Well, that's my back ground anyway. When I went to levers on my bicycle it was natural to put the front on the right for me, then, when I got the new hydraulics I simply swapped the hoses from how the bike shop built it up and never had a bleed issue. I've done demo days and borrowed bikes and never had a problem with the levers in the standard arrangement, I guess I'm a feel rider.

Oh, and I've heard that by having my front brake on the right that I have a "Euro" setup. Can anyone confirm that?
