Question 29er & Stans...

My new ride should be arriving on Thursday, and I'd like to go the Stans route. I did it with my Heckler and loved it! I've visited notubes.com and saw the rim strips for $22.50 each and the juice for $12.00, which comes to $47.00, I guess that isnt a bad deal. I was wondering if anyone knows if pricepoint or jenson or anyone else has the "kit" which includes the strips and the sauce?

I'll be converting my Bontrager rims and the tires I'll be using are the Panaracer Rampage and a Kenda Nevegal DTC. Does anyone have a recommendation on which tire to run up front/rear? I've been reading mixed reviews on which one to run up front/rear on the mtbr forums.

Thanks.

most combinations of those two will feel pretty close.... for all out traction, disregarding all rolling resistance, I'd run rampage backwards on the rear and the neve up front. I feel like the rampage casing is a little (slightly, probably imperceptibly) bigger/softer, if your bike's rigid you might want to try it up front.

can't help w/ the stans, but I know some are using 26" strips in certain rims... double check notubes.com and do a search on mtbr 29er forum.

thanks for the input brotha. my bike has a reba up front, forgot to mention that. oh yeah, the bike is an 05 Gary Fisher Rig, the Pearl Purple.

i've been looking on the notubes site and it was saying that i could probably leave the existing rim tape in there with the wheels i have. since the 26" and 29" strips cost the same, i'll just go with the 29er ones. i hate to say this, but maybe i'll call performance in fountain valley to see if they carry the kit, as they are listed on notubes as carrying it. my only concern with using a 26" kit would be that it might break down the rubber over time from being stretched, especially where the valve stem is attached.

I have a friend who has done it homeade for cheap, using liquid latex from a crafts store, fibered packing tape for rim sealing and valves cut from tubes.
There are many postings online about various methods.

I just do what my fellow MTBers do in Arizona, put a hole in a tube squirt some Stans in the tube, patch the tube and go. I like things simple.

thanks for the replies guys. i'll leave the "mcgyver" stuff to you guys, lol. i'm not to crafty with that kinda stuff, just ask rob.

i just ordered through jenson and pricematched with pricepoint, $54.98 for the kit. i told him i wanted it for the bontrager wheels and wanted the 29er kit, but the guy told me that the 26 would work just fine. he had mentioned someone with my same wheels bought the 29 kit and it didnt work for him, so he went with the standard 26 one.

i've already bought 5 things for my new ride and i dont even have it yet!

Which bonty wheels are you converting? I have the old 29er "Race" wheels with the rim brake sidewall and the stan's conversion has worked well for me. But, I've heard if you have the disc only version that you're better off with the 26" strips. Basically as long as you have a good tight seal on the tire bead you should be ok. BTW I'm going to be converting a new Nev that I picked up at the Path sale, I'm running it in the front with an ignitor rear.
