Default Dumb tire question

I know there are no dumb questions only dumb people who ask them right? I'm looking at tire sizes on pricepoint for the Mutano Raptor and it says"2.24 52/54 and 2.4 55/55"
What is the 52/54 or 55/55 part referring to?

Default Tire Question

The company WTB has been trying to get an accurate system of tire sizing started in the industry. Those numbers are for the tire body diameter 52mm and tire knob width 54mm.

The Mutanoraptor in 2.24 size is really square shaped for the tread profile, and is a great back tire. The 2.4 is has a more rounded profile, and is a great front tire.

WTB

Thanks, I have a 2.24 Mutano on the front now and love it. I think I'll step it up to the 2.4 and see how that goes.

Just don't confuse it with the Moto Raptor, second worse tire WTB ever made.

Hmmm, I have the 2.4 in back and don't like it as much. I may consider trying the 2.24 instead. I was actually thinking of putting a Fire XC Pro in back 'cause it always climbed so well. Or, I just might stick the smaller Weirwolf in the back. dunno.

Default 2.24 is more aggressive than the 2.4

Okay, I know that sounds counter intuitive. The 2.24 has more aggressive tread and is 200 grams heavier than its wider 2.4 brother. The 2.4 is more of a big volume, fast rolling, light weight XC tire. Check the stats over at wtb.com.

That said, the 2.4 is a pretty sweet tire. Light so it accelerates fast. Decently grippy. And it rolls really well.

Thanks I'm going to try the 2.4
