Lightbulb 1/2 mountain bike 1/2 snowmobile

I saw this in the dec issue of popular mechanics and while I have no plans to ride on snow anytime soon, I wonder how this mod would work on big climbs where the rear wheel spins out. Since this obviously has more grip and allows the center of gravity to be shifted even lower on a climb I would think it would work well, especially in loose stuff. The website says the rear kit costs $400 and it adds 5 lbs of weight to the frame.

i saw this before in a magazine.. its a lot of extra material and( im betting cost) to have that track system. i guess it can be pedaled tho unlike the skis that attach right to the dropouts.

Yeah, the skiers will have something to hate about us too. No breaks? No air? Very freekin cold? I think I'll stick to the dirt, although I will admit it does look like fun.

I'd try it if it was for rent! I was thinking of building one by using my Woodstock 505 HT frame. I went to the Goodwill to look for some old skis...
