The rumors are not true, tube size does matter. If you are concerned about your tube size, find a tighter space to put it in...hahhahaha...my mech. says that a slightly smaller tube size is okay. You are only blowing it up more to fill up the volume. I don't like that answer and run the appropriate tube size b/c you are only stretching the tube's rubber, no pun intended!, by putting too much volume in it. Wow, now that's sexy!

Urrrragh!

I have used plenty of tubes that were considerably smaller with great success. On the other hand, I have used the appropriate tube and flatted within the first 10 minutes. Bottom line, they are going to go flat sooner or later so I say use what you have.

you sure it's not faux Jeremy ![]() re: tubes i have used "correct" size and smaller than tires (1.9/2.1 in 2.35) and merely inflated a bit more. never noticed any real difference. anticapte the greater the variance in sizes the more of an issue

I am a noob to mountain biking and have a tube question as well. What tubes do you usally use and carry with you on your rides. i am going to go ride Bootleg on the 27th and want to be prepared.

I doubt that there is such a thing. Personally, I use Slime tubes for my trail bike. I don't know that they actually have done much to keep me rolling, but some people that ride in desert areas swear by them. I also don't get many flats <knock on wood>.
I buy many tubes from Performance.com for my road and commuter bike. They seem to work okay.

Slime tubes really only help if you are riding trails with lots of thorns on the trail. Like for when I was a kid and I used to ride in the fields by my house I would always run over thorns and get slow leaks and that sort of stuff and slime was good with that. I haven't run slime in my MTB tubes ever and I rarely get flats. I got those tuffy liners a long time ago and I never get throns in my tire. I have gotten a few pinch flats, but I finally invested in a floor pump (for a year I never knew what pressure I had in my tires and I never realized how low the psi in my tires always was, so make sure you atleast have a pressure gauge to chech your tires!!!!!) so I have a pressure gauge and hopefully I get fewer pinch flats.
