well it seems to be one thing after another with this ****ing bike. 3rd run @ southridge this morning @ the rock drop, my rebound went out the window, fork shot to full droop faster than you can say "holy s***", hard too, pogo stick status. stopped and ran the reb. adjuster full + with no change. *sighs and takes anger out on a rock innocently laying neer* so i load up and went home (i did see rob {bikebike69} for a moment though). i took the fork apart to find the rebound side cart to be in pieces, snap ring gone, o rings gone, general destruction on the right side of the fork. the compression side looks okay and felt the same it did a few weeks ago when i changed fluid, as in, when its full+ its stiff, full- its light, but should i replace both carts?( i think they are 150.00 a piece though!!) i know ill rebuild all new seals and such while im at it, should i get orig. marz seals or get those sweet blue enduro ones? which do you suggest?
better than stock? http://enduroforkseals.com/id53.html so my questions for you are: 1. stock seals or enduro ones? 2. if you were me, would you do compression eventhough it feels good? 3. any other tips that would be considered when doing this, anything else i should do while i have the bastard apart? im up the creek until monday i guess when i can get in touch with marzocchi. this is total BS ![]()

I run push'ed foxes so I haven't actually used a shock with the blue enduros but I have heard nothing but good things about them. As for rebuiling the compression side, If you can afford it then do so, however generally the comp cartrige tends to last longer than the rebound side so if replacing it will put you in dire straits then don't.

well i dont have 300.00 to spend, since the comp side still feels good, i think i can get away with that for now, worst case is i have to tear it back apart to do the compression side and all that will cost me aside fromt he cart is fluid and time.
well, after tearing the reb. cart apart, it appears that since the clip snapped and released the cart shaft main bushing (which stabilizes the rod) it made the fork have total bleed through the top (didnt allow fluid to be dampened through the orig. holes, but through the top which is 15-20 times larger than the holes @ the bottom the fluid is supposed to flow through) this made the fork have NO rebound because the oriface that the fluid was SUPPOSED to be flowing through was no longer being utilized, instead a huge gap was used as a bypass. so i replaced the o-ring on the main bushing deal and popped it back in the cart, minus the snap ring, emersed it in oil and gave it a push then tug, felt normal.. ran the adjusted all the way in (full reb) gave it a push then tug, felt normal. this leads me to believe that if i simple re-install the snap ring, put the fork together and fill'er up, all should be good. im going to leave it disassembled until i talk to marz, but i think if the cart itself were broken, it wouldnt have the ability to reb. at all.

your tellin me frank. i hope i can get all the parts by then. if not im racing reboundless, pogo mcgee. im super pissed i didnt get many runs in today, hopefully i can get it rebuilt midweek and go friday and maybe thursday to get it dialed in. so no comments on the enduros above stock huh?
i went to ACE, pepboys, autozone, lowes, home depot, kragen and star auto and never found the right size internal snap ring for the carts, appears to be 9/16 but has a slightly funny shape as compared to the normal snap rings. im going to call incycle tomarrow and see if they stock these small parts, fingers crossed.

The good things we hear about Enduro seals are usually on Fox replacements. On their high end forks, Zoke has some of the best seals in the bussiness.

Marz are good seals, Endros are good seals, is one better than the other? I have no idea. I do think that endro seals are better than Fox seals.

good news.. called marz this morning and talked to a guy named Giddian (sp), asked him if they had those lil clips that hold the bushing to the cart, and asked if they stocked the preload c clips and o-rings, he said they should. well i was off today and decided to just shoot up there (100 miles away, made it in 1 hr 7 minutes!) to my suprise the lovely lady @ the front desk asked what my name was, i replied and she handed me a little baggie with all the parts in it (not only the snap ring that i needed but an extra, orings and c-clips!), free of charge. marz is getting a x-mas card this year! not just waiting on the seals from enduro.

well its all back together. one problem, how tight are the carts supposed to be in the legs? they are about as tight as they were comin out, but they just dont feel tight enough, every time i put a turn on it they just slip inside the legs. thanks!

According to the 06 manual turque for "pumping rod/cartridge bottom nut/screw" is 10Nm +/- 1. For Monster T's (the only fork listed separtely) it's 25Nm +/-1. If yours is other than an 06, pull up the tech manual on Zoke's site for that year and the torque values are towards the back. The preload from the top cap pushing down on the spring/cartridge does a lot of the work in holding things together. Unless you have some violent top out (which you shouldn't) they don't bear that much of a load. The 10mn is enough to let the o-ring seal, but not so much as to crush it.
Good luck and have fun at the races. Chris |
