Default Rampage clearance on a One-9

Note: 29 inch content.

First off, I have one the the first run Niner frames, the newer frames have more tire clearance. The tire fits, but it is too close and I am getting a buss on steep climbs. The issue is not clearance at the yoke, it is chainstay clearance and tire sidewall knobs...about 1/16 of a inch between the two. The new Nevegals are supose to be a bit narrower...both are listed as 2.35. If I tweek the rear rim I better get good at trueing wheels or I am walking out.

Before I go out and buy a new Nevegal for the back I was wondering if anyone wants to trade a Nevagal for a Rampage. Rampage is a excellent tire and I am keeping it on the front. If you want to just buy it outright they are $42 new...make me a offer. Right now they are hard to find...that will change in a couple of weeks.

Also bike lost half a pound in weight switching out the front fork. New carbon On-One fork weighed in at 2.19 lbs uncut. Tani from The Path rode my bike and he could feel some breaking flex. Not enough for me to tell the difference. I can tell the difference on the trail. The carbon does take the sting out of the chatter.

C'mon ya big sissy, smack those chain stays with da hammer for more clearance.
It's just like putting headers on a small block chevy, gotta smack 'um a bit.

If you don't want to do it just swing by sometime. I'll give it a few wacks no problem. lol

I truely appreciate the offer, if it was a steel frame I would take you up on it.

How about cleaning the chain once in a while bub. Does the fork have a weight limit like the Pace carbon?

No weight limit. It is the Big Boy Carbon Fork.

That was a clean chain at the start of todays ride. A little rain would be nice.

Done, I bought the fork pre-production back in April.

I am still looking to buy a used medium Niner Air-9 frame. If I don't find one by X-Mas I have a contact of a welder in Santa Ana that will weld me up what I want. I am building a 29-inch rigid geared bikepacking bike for multiday excursions....racks (panniers) front and back.

even on my so-called "newer" One 9 warranty replacement frame, the Bontrager ACX 2.25 rubbed and it drove me nuts. so my feeling is even the new frames did not get near enough clearance.

It is still a rigid fork, compared to the Surly Karate Monkey fork that was on there it feels like it has 1/4 inch of travel now.

That's the funniest thing I read all night! A 1/4" of travel?! What do you do with that? Huck cracks in the sidewalk? That's not travel, Dean, that's a loose headset!

Aw, sh*t, I crack myself up. Hang on, can't stop laughing I'm so funny.

<crickets>

Guys?

sweet! Now all you need to do is hook up another 11 of them to the front end and it will be like having a 3" travel fork!

truth be told, the 1/4" is probably a fair assessment as that is what my Pace felt like.....having said that, my Inbred 29er fork then felt like it had at least 1/3", maybe 1/2" travel since that was the best rigid fork I have owned.

Brake flex bad for steering precision at the worst possible moments.

Please post lots of photos of your bikepacker custom.

I can not feel the flex...I trust Tani, so I do belive it is there. Brake flex on a rigid fork is nothing compare to brake dive on a suspension fork.

I missed this because I was busy trying to be funny. You going trekking? That'd be so much fun. I can't wait to do something like that one of these summers that I don't have to work. What a blast!

Yes next spring/summer, plan is Arizona Trail, Mogollon Rim, Kaibab and Tonto National Forests. http://www.aztrail.org/at_map.html

Or if I get it together earlier White Rim Trip http://gorp.away.com/gorp/location/ut/bik_moab5.htm
